By the time we arrived, cars were packed onto the small stretch of grass in front of the house. Amelia found a decent place to park, and we made our way to the backyard area of the house by following a trail of shoes, streamers and balloons.
Music was pumping from speakers all around, and the smell of all kinds of food and drinks instantly wafted into our noses.
"Wow" was all we said at the same time. I looked around to see a few groups of people on different balconies dancing, drinking, and having a good time. The house was right on the water, with lines of trees on either side that provided some sort of privacy.
"Hello, who might you lovely ladies be?" I whipped my head around to see a a guy, probably 20 or 21 years old talking to me and my friend. I finally got a good look at him as Amelia introduced us. Tall, wicked curly hair, and eyes that were blue, green, and hazel all at the same time.
damn, okay, this might not be as painful as I thought
"Jay." he said, holding out his hand. "So, what brings you here?"
"Oh, we were invited. By uh, Alex. You know him?" I asked, still scanning the property for at least one other familiar face.
"Oh yeah, that's my guy! Come on, I'll get you guys set up." We followed him to the buffet area and he began to hand us drinks, Amelia taking one while I politely refused. He led us to the beach area where people were doing the usual activities of surfing, playing ball, and dancing. Me and Jay talked for a while and after a little bit, Amelia and I had started to dance with everyone else.
More people started to filter onto the beach, and soon enough the majority of the crowd was all moving together. I had to admit it was pretty fun, but for some reason I was still trying to track Alex down. Another fast paced song began, and everyone jumped up and down when the bass came in for the chorus. I started to laugh at Amelia, who was trying to have fun despite having a look of terror on her face. For a minute, I slowed down jumping, beginning to get tired before suggesting to grab water. The second I turned around I ran into someone, instantly apologizing.
"We really need to stop meeting like this, don't we."
"Ahhh, I'm so sorry Alex. I've been looking everywhere for you!" I said, yelling over the loud music.
He laughed, grabbing my hand to lead me away from the crowd. Although our palms were sweaty, I liked how he held mine in his. We stopped in front of the large drink table, where he handed me a bottle of water. I chugged it, setting it back down before he once again grabbed my hand. We weaved in and out of the crowd, Alex saying hi to various people. We ended up inside the house where he tapped someone on the shoulder before the turned around. My jaw dropped as I came face to face with one of my idols, "Jamie O'brien?" I asked.
"Hey! What's up my friend?" He said, hugging me tightly. The smell or some sort of alcohol was very apparent on his breath. I just continued to stand there as Alex and Jamie talked back and forth. After a while Jamie began a conversation with me, asking all about my life and everything.
I just fangirled until Alex came back up behind me, his hand resting on the small of my back.
"Hey man, mind if I steal her away for a bit?" He asked. Jamie nodded, peering behind us and instantly shouting out again, "What's up dude?"
I chuckled, standing and pushing in one of the barstools as Alex grabbed my hand for the third time. We went up another flight of stairs and into a loft above the second floor, where a small window let out to the roof facing the water.
"Wow" I said, letting out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. I turned to my right to see Alex sitting on a small beach towel. I shivered at the cool wind, the smell of the salt water blowing by me. He patted it, and I sat down slowly as not to fall. The area around the house was dark with nightfall, but the entire backyard was lit up with strings of small fairy lights, and neon strobe colors coming from the makeshift dancefloor.
