"Hey, everything okay" my dad asked as soon as I got in the car.

"yeah, everything is fine. I'd just rather spend time with you while I'm here."
"good, I'm glad. I got your favorite takeout, would you be okay just spending the night in?"

"That sounds perfect dad."

After arriving home, I turned the thermostat down, threw on sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and fuzzy socks to try and get comfortable. My dad descended the stairs in a simple shirt and sweatpants, comfortable but still clean and presentable looking. We sat on the couch with our food, plus popcorn I had made and a few other snacks.

"What would you like to watch?" He asked, grabbing the remote.

"Hmmmmm, something funny." I replied as he selected the comedy genre.

We picked a movie and sat laughing for most of it, saying a few things here and there. After the movie ended we started talking again.

"So, have you thought about colleges yet?"
"A little bit. I think I need to figure out what I want to do before I figure out where I want to go though."

"Any ideas on that?"
"Not really to be honest. I mean they don't offer anything here that has interested me."

"well, what interests you?"

"Honestly? Something medical. I've always loved watching you work. I don't want to be a doctor, but just something where I can be hands on helping people."

"Hm...... Have you talked to Lisa? She has a few friends in nursing, that could be interesting."

"Yeah, I thought about that, I just don't think I fit into any specialty."

"What about a sports trainer? It's medical, it's what mom does, you can be hands on and still enjoy parts of the game."
"But I'm terrible at knowing football, and I hate basketball."

"How about hockey?"
"Yeah, okay."
"I'm serious honey. Think about it. You don't have to decide your whole future now, but just consider it. I support whatever you decide, but it might be time for a change."

"yeah, definitely. She said Lia could come with me if she wanted to, can you believe that?" He chuckled.

"To be honest I thought you would want to bring Tate before Amelia, but that's great."

The next day I was woken up by a familiar alarm. I sat up, reaching for my phone to turn off the awful buzzing sound.

I did my normal morning routine, skipping a morning swim as it was pretty cloudy outside. After going downstairs to make breakfast I connected my phone to the speakers embedded throughout the house. I put on my vibes playlist and made my way to the fridge. When I had picked out a few fruits and put them together I sat at the bar and scrolled through social media.

I read over the caption, trying not to think much of it before liking and continuing to scroll. Minutes later I got a call from none other than the surfer boy himself

"Hey, what's up?"

"Nothing, just wondering if you wanted to hang out a bit before I leave tomorrow."

My heart sank a bit at the mention of him leaving.

"Sure." I did my best to utter out without sounding too sad.

"Cool. I'll see you in a bit yeah?"

"Yeah, sounds good." I replied before hanging up. I sighed, cleaning my dishes before continuing to get ready.

Bikini, shorts, tank top, sandals, backpack, surfboard prep (just in case, of course).

Alex sent me a text saying he was outside and I made sure the door was locked on the way out. As I got in the car, Alex leaned in for a side hug and a quick peck on the cheek. I blushed, and we drove off before I realized one important thing.

"Uh, where are we going?"

Alex chuckled and turned down the music before responding with a quick, "You'll see." I nodded, admiring the beautiful island and the music. After a bit of a drive, we arrived at the same beach we met at.

"Ah, Alex. This is so sweet."
"Thank you, I try."

He helped me get out of the car and led me to

"A picnic? Are you serious?" I asked excitedly.

"I had some help from Jamie of course. I figured this would just be a nice little thing for us to do, get our minds off of everything."

I giggled and spun around before pulling Alex in for a tight hug. I uttered out about a dozen 'thank you's' before pulling away. On impulse I connected his lips with mine, and he smiled, deepening the kiss. After a few moments, I heard someone cough loudly, and turned to see one of Jamie's friends with a ukulele in hand.

He began to play a song very off key, to the point I didn't really know what it was supposed to be.

"Alright boys, thanks. Now get outta here." He said, patting the man on the shoulder. He burst out laughing, but still walked back up the beach and into the thick trees.

Alex then made a motion for me to sit as he got out a basket. he pulled out various foods and snacks and we began to eat and talk. By this time the sun had begun to set and  fewer people were on the beach. Alex had brought a speaker and had been gently playing music through it the whole date.

He suddenly stood up, making me jump a bit.

"What?" I asked, as he held his hands out.

"May I have this dance?" I stood up, taking his hands in mine.

"You may." He gently wrapped his hands around my waist and I placed mine on his neck and we swayed back and forth until the song ended. Alex brought me in for another kiss and I felt my heart racing as he deepened it.

Wow. What a night.

The next day Alex stopped by my house to say goodbye and it was surprisingly harder than I thought. Coincidentally, both Amelia and tate ended up at my house at the same time and were both relaxing on opposite sides of the couch. And by relaxing I mean awkwardly sitting on their phones both stealing glances at each other without saying a word.

"So, I'll call or text you when I land, sound good?"
I nodded, my hands in my jean pockets. He pulled me into a hug, but refrained from a kiss as my dad was somewhere around the house.

The door shut and the house was silent again. I heard the clock ticking and I noticed Amelia went from looking bored to rather upset.

"You good?" I asked, sitting between the two.

"yeah, just sad Jay didn't come in to say goodbye."
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." I responded.

"So, you guys want to do anything today?" I asked, trying to get a response from at least one of them. The tension in the room was so bizarre and I couldn't place why.

"Um, I think I'm just gonna go home. Thanks though." Amelia said. She quickly got up and left without saying another word.
"yeah my mom just texted, I need to pick Cole up and take him shopping."
"Really, you just got here! We can go together if you want" I suggested.
"That's fine, really. Don't worry about it." Then Cole left the same way as Amelia.

I sat there dumbfounded. What the heck was up with those two?
