I woke up to a buzzing phone and before I even had the chance to sit up, was overwhelmed with the sound of Tate practically screaming.

"Dude, chill out it's like 7am." I barked, my voice still raspy from sleep.

"Okay it's almost 11 but go off."

"What do you want. And why are you yelling?"

"Sorry, I'm in my car. On the way to pick you up. For our annual friendaversary date. That is today. Are you ready?"

I shot up out of bed and threw off the covers. Shit shit shit shit shit . I panicked and turned on speaker phone as I frantically turned on the sink and began to brush my teeth.

"I'm almost ready, just gotta finish a few things." I blurted, the toothpaste making it hard to understand.

"Meaning you just woke up and are trying to get ready in the short amount of time you have until I get there?"

"......No?"

"Whatever, I'll just wait in the living room until you're ready. Is your dad around?"

I spit out the toothpaste and quickly rinsed before responding.

"No, he got a last minute consultation this morning. Something about a sick kid who needed emergency surgery. He'll be gone all day I think."

"Cool." He said before the phone cut out. The door opened and I heard him yelling the rest of his thought "So how have you been? Mexico was super fun. Cole got chased by this dude after I definitely didn't teach him some crude words in Spanish."

"Nice, I'm in here!" I called. He threw the door open and belly flopped onto my bed, making a snarky comment about how messy my room was. It wasn't terrible, sure there were a few clothes from last night, my desk had a few papers on it.... Okay it was pretty messy.

"How did you spend the darkest 12 days of your life without me?" He asked, his head propped in his hands with his elbows resting on the comforter.

"Darkest 12 days is a bit dramatic, more like 12 days of relief from motherly responsibilities." I said in a dramatic voice. he launched a pillow at me but I swatted it away. I made my way over to my dresser and selected a few clothes, and made my way to the closet.

"Turn around you goof." I said to Tate whose eyes had followed me across the room.

"What?! It's not like it's anything I haven't seen before." He retorted casually. I scoffed.

"The last time you saw it was when we were 5 years old in the wading pools with our parents, before we understood the concept of clothes." I made a motion for him to turn around still and I quickly threw on a bikini under my usual high waisted shorts and a cropped graphic tee.

"Okay, I'm decent." I said, making my way towards the bed. I grabbed chapstick, applying it before grabbing my already packed day bag for wherever the day might lead.

Stop 1- the grocery store

Tate and I arrived at our local grocery store after a few minutes in the car, and we split into two different directions. Tate towards the deli and me towards the snack section.

I started humming while walking down the aisles and realized I had forgotten something major.

"Oh shit" I muttered. An older woman gasped, and shook her head at my use of the word. I pulled out my phone and dialed Alex the phone picking up after the third ring. I could tell he was still at Jamie's by the sound of people in the background.
