That was incredibly empowering, but once outside I realize I don't have a way home and reality hits hard. "Shit! Fuck!"

I pull out my phone, but I don't even know who to call. Everyone is at work. I scroll through my contacts. There's one person who I know isn't working yet because his workplace doesn't open until 3PM.

"And here I thought I was going to have to hunt you down. Need me already?" Lucas answers, taunting me right out the gate.

"I'm kind of stranded. I feel bad asking, but can you pick me up and give me a ride home?" I ask, aware of how pathetic I sound.

"Have you ate breakfast yet?" He inquires.

"Just an apple."

"So no you haven't. Let me take you to breakfast." He presses.

"Um, okay..." I agree with a giggle at his persistence.

"Text me the address of where to pick you up." I hang up and am texting Lucas when the door bangs open, making me jump.

"Alan!" I exclaim in surprise.

He points back at the building. "I swear to God, Kinsey. I'm going to strangle that shithead!"

"Hey calm down. Did you quit too?" I quip.

"Suspended. Mitch didn't want to hear any 'excuses.' He told me to exercise whatever demons possessed me to attack another employee and come back once I have my head on straight." He relays the events that unfolded once I left.

I roll my eyes and cross my arms. "Sounds like Mitch. Doesn't care that he's harboring that creep in there."

Alan pauses from his meltdown and looks at me. "I can't believe you did that in there. You know if you go to HR..."

"It won't do any good. Mitch will get a smack on the hand and just be more of a dick to me. I needed a shove to end it." I say with a shrug.

"Well good for you thinking so fucking positively. But seriously, what are you going to do now?" He asks, coming down from his wrath.

"I have no fucking clue."

We both laugh.

"Well I feel that. I'm clueless on all fronts. I don't know how to make things right with Sasha. I don't know how I'm going to ever be in the same room with Elliot without committing bloody murder. And now I've got you to worry about." He rambles.

"Al, you know I care about you, right?" I ask gently.

He looks at me with a worried expression. "Where you going with this, Kinsey?"

"We're not a couple anymore. I shouldn't be your concern."

He sighs and looks at the ground, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Old habits, you know?"

I let that sit for a moment and then I clap my hands on my legs. "Let's go see if we can fix things with Sasha."

Alan replies with less enthusiasm. "She's at work. And not taking any of my calls."

"Then we go to her work and we do something she can't possibly ignore." I insist.

"This is either going to work or blow up in our faces, you know that right?" He says, giving me a wary smile.

"No offense, but we've got nothing to lose today." I rationalize.

And just like that Alan and I are headed across town to win back his girl. We stop at the farmer's market and Alan buys pretty much every flower they have for sale. I grab a hunk of good cheese, a pear, and a bottle of wine.
