*** Lex's POV ***
Kinsey left to get ready with Fiona for the talent showcase. We spent the afternoon lazing around the pool and it was honestly perfect. No drama, no pressure. I know I still had some explaining to do about Cara, but Kinsey seemed to want to keep things light for the time being.
Now I was heading down to get a seat in the audience. I walked in and saw the place was filling up quickly. I scanned the crowd. No sign of Lucas or Cara. I take a seat on an aisle, a few seats down from an older couple. I overhear them talking to another pair of guests about their dance lessons.
I have never been a great dancer, but seeing how happy it makes Kinsey, makes me want to try to improve for her. Hopefully Malik is a miracle worker.
As the pavilion continues to fill, I see Cara walk in with her arm looped through some short, bald guy's arm. It's almost comical to watch them walk together, him taking an extra step for each stride she takes so he can keep up with her. I try to hide my smirk.
I hear a familiar voice behind me. "Cara actually said she was attracted to that guy because he reminded her of you. Funny, huh?"
I smirk at the awkward couple. "Maybe if you cut me off at the shoulders and replaced my head with my dick. Maybe then I can see the resemblance. Maybe."
We both laugh. Lucas awkwardly stands with his hands in his pockets. I feel like Kinsey would want me to do the right thing here. "Do you want to sit?"
"Are you good with that?" Lucas asks with a raised eyebrow of doubt.
"It's a seat. Don't expect a handshake or a hug out of the deal and I think I can handle sitting together." I joke.
"Cool." He replies. I stand and move down a seat. We sit in silence for a few minutes. "Sorry about weighing in on the furniture discussion when you were moving out."
"It's no big deal. The more I thought about it, I wanted a fresh start. I actually went furniture shopping last week to furnish our new apartment." I inform him.
"Our new apartment? You and Kinsey are moving in together? Already?" He sounds surprised. There's no antagonism, but still his questions annoy me.
"Yeah, that whole business with Opal really had her on edge. I needed a place and I just asked her if she would move in with me. She's still keeping her place, just in case." I explain although I don't owe him jack.
"Ah, yeah. Opal. Now you worked with Kinsey for a time, right?" He asks, propping his leg up on knee.
"Lucas, we don't have to do this. Make small talk. Just because we agreed to let sleeping dogs lie doesn't mean we're pals now." I clarify.
"Right." We sit for a few more minutes and I see his leg start to bounce. He is antsy and now he's making me antsy.
"So the girls have known each other since they were kids?" I question.
"That's my understanding. They were with the same dance company. But then something happened." He comments. I know exactly what happened. Kinsey almost killed herself in pursuit of perfection. "Then there's this weird tension surrounding the topic of Kinsey's brother and Fiona."
"Huh?" I had missed this.
"Yeah, did you miss that this morning? I think Kinsey's brother might have been one of Fiona's firsts or something." Lucas guesses.
"Interesting, I'll have to ask Dylan." I say.
Lucas looks at me in disbelief. "Wait, you're in tight with the family already too? Man, I never stood a chance!"
