*** Kinsey's POV ***
I find her where Malik had taken me when I was stressed - the spa. She is getting a facial so I almost don't recognize her.
"Fiona, we need to talk. That wasn't what it looked like. Jones was hassling me again and..." I start to explain.
Fiona waves her hand. "No worries, hon. He's nothing to me and whatever you need to tell yourself to justify cheating on your boyfriend is your business."
"Fiona, that's not fair. He kissed me." I insist.
Fiona sits up and stares at me hard. "After you fucking launched yourself at him. Talk about mixed signals!"
"Look I know you're mad." I say.
"I'm not mad."
"You are and I'm sorry. I cleared things up with him and now I'm trying to do the same thing here." I try hard to get her to understand that.
"I know what I saw, Kinsey. It's fine." Fiona dismisses it even though I can tell she's still simmering below the surface.
Time for a new tactic. "Why couldn't you sleep last night?"
"Huh?" She doesn't follow.
"Tell me what kept you up last night." I clarify.
"I told you I was guilty for kissing a guy that you're obviously not over." She says passive aggressively.
"That's bullshit and you know it!" I call her out. The spa folks are probably going to kick us out of here soon for our animated discussion.
"What do you want me to say, Kinsey? That I stayed up wondering why he didn't kiss me back at first? That I was hurt that he ran off? Or that I couldn't stop thinking that for the first time in a long time I felt like I actually connected with a guy over something other than our desire to fuck." She explodes on me.
I sit down next to her. All the techs and a few guests who were staring busy themselves when I take a glance around. My eyes come back to her face and I see her eyes are holding back tears.
I apologize. "I'm sorry."
"Me too. I'm overreacting. I know he's into you. That's why he didn't kiss me. It's why he left right after it happened. Today, you looked like the happy couple you pretended to be." She replies, glumly.
"But we're not, Fi. And I did what you asked. I told him again. I admitted I never gave him a chance. That I used him." I tell her.
"You did?" She asks, surprised.
I nod my head. "Malik witnessed it. Said I had special pussy powers because he forgave me afterwards and offered to be my pretend boyfriend for this wedding."
Fiona rolls her eyes. "Of course he did. He thinks he's getting in your good graces."
"I shot that down, too. And I won't take him up on the offer if you don't want me to." I concede.
"Really?"
"Really." We hug.
"I can't believe I actually heard you out. Maybe you do have special pussy powers." She teases. We laugh. "As much as I hate it, I don't want to ruin the bride and groom's wedding day by twisting the nuts off their best man so maybe Lucas should play the part."
I am relieved and quickly assure her. "I already told him no kissing."
"Prude." She jokes.
I act offended. "How would you feel if I invited him and his sister to dinner with us tonight? No pressure, but just another chance for you two to connect."
