Our beloved Madhav has a total of 108 names. All of these beautiful names are very dear to us. One such name is Madhava. 'Madhava' is what his beloved Parth lovingly calls him. This is a name which has many meanings....

Madhava is one of the primary names of Krishna, the All-attractive. The word Madhava in Sanskrit means honey. It therefore, describes anything related to honey or sweetness. He is, afterall,  the kindest and sweetest person in this universe!
By extension, the word describes a person descended from the Madhu clan.
Madhu was a great king who belonged to Yadavkul, After Madhu his great grandson Vrishni was born in Yadavkul. Vrishni was a great king and after 5th generation of King Vrishni Lord Krishna was born in Vrishni clan. Due to the same lineage Krishna was called Madhav.

The name Sri Madhava means the husband of the Goddess of Fortune. Lord Krishna and his consort are eternally and constantly associated with each other, and are Inseparable. Her power is invincible and awe-inspiring and She is equal to Lord Vishnu. From the Bhagavad Gita it is understood to refer to Vishnu being the husband of the goddess of fortune (Lakshmi). Arjuna addresses Krishna in the first chapter as follows:
"What should we gain, O Krishna, husband of the goddess of fortune, and how could we be happy by killing our own kinsmen?"

Another meaning of the word ' Madhava' is One who is the Lord of knowledge. In this, 'Ma' stands for knowledge, and 'Dhava' for Lord. This because he is the one who possesses all the knowledge in the world! In the context of Arjuna calling Lord Krishna as Madhava, the word Ma refers to the transcendental knowledge and Lord Krishna as the master of transcendental knowledge, who dissipated this knowledge to Arjuna in the form of Bhagavad Gita.

And that is how he got his name Madhava...one of his most popular, endearing and enchanting names!
