We had drove in silence after Carl (he mentioned his name before I asked) had told me Niveah had asked him to pick me up as I didn't know my way around here. I sighed for like the tenth time and wiped some cold sweat off my forehead. I hadn't looked back at Mr.Gruchin.
"Are you okay?"he asked
I simply nodded.
"I mean what was going on, why did he hold you back and you kneed him?"he asked. Today he didn't sound much rude.
"Nothing."I muttered. He scoffed.
"Do I look stupid, who was that guy?" he asked seriously.
"My manager."I mumbled.
"Was that manager of yours trying to force you into anything?" I remained silent and he huffed angrily.
"Why do you work there if he treats you like that?"he asked angrily. What's up with this guy.
"Hey, your not my brother or anything. You don't need to look out for me."I huffed. He laughed in an unamused tone.
"Of course am a concerned citizen who hates seeing women being harrassed."he muttered.
"Good for you. But like you saw, I can defend myself."I dead panned. And we remained in silence until the apartment."I almost thought Carl would leave you at the roadside or something."mumbled Lucy as she gave me a brief hug on opening the door.
"You have little faith in me, red head."scoffed Carl as we entered the apartment which was dimly lit. With Sona and Ni curled in the loveseat talking softly to themselves, Essy and Jack were in the kitchen preparing pop corn. So it was gonna be a movie night or something. After mumbling a hi to everyone I had joined the guys in the kitchen in search for a drink that Lucy had told me to get myself."Prim, would you be kind enough to get me the soda from the fridge?"asked Jack which I did and he mumbled a thanks.
"You were at my party last time, right?"asked Essy and I nodded sipping my lemon juice.
"Who can forget when you literally danced your legs off."muttered Jack and they laughed briefly at the memory which made me feel embarrassed as in I couldn't even recall half the things I did.
"Your dance moves are of their own kind except your rubs,"said Essy as he nodded in approval. "I have a friend who has been searching for you all over campus even after Ni told him your weren't there."he laughed briefly and I smiled back although my cheeks were literally red now, exactly how many guys did I dance with?"Come on guys am done setting up the movie."announced Lucy as she called all of us to the living room so with bowls of pop corn and a soda for each of us, the movie started. It was a detective which I assume Essy had chosen since Lucy had told me it was his turn to choose the movie, then I guessed they did this alot. I was sitting next to Carl with my legs crossed in the sofa. Ni and Sona were still in the loveseat with Ni's legs on him. Lucy was sitting on the carpet covered in a blue duvet next to Essy who was also on the floor as they shared popcorn. And Jack was sitting alone in the arm chair with his own bowl of popcorn.
I was never one for detective movies sincerely I rarely watched them. You could guess what I watched, rom coms of course and musicals, those were my best and also true stories, I had a soft spot for any movie that was a true story. So that's why I found myself simply looking around as the movie went on.
My eyes landed on Carl next to me and I stared at his shoulder length hair that he held in a messy Ponytail with a few strands down his forehead and I itched to organize it but kept my hands to myself. His face looked smooth and his lips plump and light pink, which gave off that he wore light lipstick at times. He was still wearing his bling bling. He must love it or something.
"The TV is the other way."he mumbled without looking at me and I looked away, clearly looking like a deer caught in headlights. I guessed he must have felt my eyes on him checking him out or something but I felt butterflies in my stomach. Crap, not a crush again!
I had bad luck with crushes, all the boys I crushed on went for someone else. I remember Marvin in highschool, he had literally asked my friend to prom yet I had crushed on him for like half the senior year. So I knew better than to put my hopes up on crushes, indeed I just get crushed. And how sure was I he even considered me a friend.
The movie had ended without me noticing. And we all got to chatting more like they got to chatting as I listened, they were reminding themselves of long ago stories as they laughed and I couldn't help but laugh along some. Like when Lucy pretended to be a bear making bear noises as they were camping and scared Jack. He had screamed like a girl running out of his tent. And what amused me the most was the fact that they didn't treat me any different even though they hardly knew me.
