Akaashi stared in wonder at Sugawara. He had never met anyone else like he and his mother. In fact, he was terrified for anyone else to know.

"Now, Akaashi-san, what else did you want to talk about?"

He glanced at Suga once more, noting the safe smile on his lips. Suga was safe. Motherly.

Suga was pink. His energy was tender, welcoming, loving. It was like strawberry lemonade at an amusement park. Like baking cookies at 3 am and watching the Twilight movies for a fifth time.

Akaashi knew he could trust Suga.

And so Akaashi and Suga talked for the remainder of the allotted thirty minutes before rushing back inside at the calls of the Karasuno coach.

The first practice match was Nekoma vs Karasuno, and Akaashi watched in pure shock as the starting setter and short middle blocker completed what was dubbed as the 'freak quick'.

Nekoma won both sets, with the scores being 25-18 and 25-23.

Next up was Fukurodani vs Nekoma, allowing time for Karasuno to take punishment and strategize.

And so Akaashi set to his teammates, sweat beading his forehead and neck. He set to Bokuto, the team ace, most often. He watched time and time again as his teammates rallied against Nekoma.

And towards the end of their second set, he made eye contact with Suga, who gave him a thumbs up and a small smile.

And suddenly Akaashi was more focused than he had been all night. He set perfect tosses every time, and Fukurodani took the second set with ease.

The game against Karasuno felt entirely different, the energy surrounding this team was almost too much. When Akaashi went to drink some water, he pulled out the lavender oil he kept with his belongings and inhaled, knowing that it would help calm him a little.

He kissed the four tiger's eye beads on his bracelet, silently pleading for this to go well.

Akaashi adapted to the tall blonde middle blocker and the short loud one's moves as well as possible, but it seemed as though they were constantly evolving as well.

Fukurodani ended up taking both sets, but not until after some rather intense rallies.

After the games were finished, Sugawara came over to congratulate Akaashi, fresh towel in hand.

Akaashi took the towel, thanked Suga, and allowed Suga to trade phone numbers with him. Suga had guessed that Akaashi was better with writing than speaking aloud, and when Akashi confirmed he pretty much had no choice but to give him the number.

Suga ♡: hi! You played really well today! :)

Akaashi ♡: thank you, suga-san.

And so a new friendship formed, the two spending a couple hours texting each other with a few interruptions from Bokuto and Kenma before Akaashi eventually had to sleep.
