Akaashi had been freaking out all day, where was Bokuto? It wasn't like the captain to not only miss practice, but to not inform anyone. He didn't show for any of his classes either, and Akaashi had been panicking all day.

He texted Kenma first, since they usually gave the best advice for these things. Next he texted Kuroo, seeing if maybe he might have known anything. He texted Suga, and at this point he was crying and shaking in a bathroom stall.

Oikawa texted him, Suga had told him he needed support while Suga tried to get Bokuto to respond.

And so it was determined that Akaashi would go to Bokuto's house during lunch, which he could hardly wait for.

Akaashi found himself counting down the minutes, the seconds until he could sprint to his senpai's house, so when that bell rang and he jolted upright, the rest of the class was left in shock to see the typically stoic Akaashi so worried about something.

When Akaashi got to Bokuto's house, it was eerily quiet, the complete opposite of Bokuto himself. There were no cars in the drive, which Akkashi noted.

The door opened to reveal Bokuto, who looked to be in a bad state. Without thinking, Akaashi once again jumped on him for a hug, but this time his senpai yelped in pain, causing Akaashi to back up in fear.

When Bokuto had recovered and recommended going to the park down the street from his house, Akaashi agreed, desperate to know what had happened.

And his curiosity was not satiated, but rather worsened when Bokuto claimed he had overslept and forgot to plug in his phone, neither of which were Bokuto habits.

Akaashi could feel the energy shift as he pleaded for answers from his senpai, from the muddied sunset back to the fear-inducing colours of the darkest nights.

"Bokuto-san, please, why did you get hurt from my hug?"

And though his question wasn't answered by his senpai directly, it was answered by the screaming man on the other end of the phone, the one who demanded to know where Koutaro was, why he wasn't at home.

And Akaashi stared in fear and understanding when he saw Bokuto crumple at the sound of his father's voice, when he saw Bokuto flinch at every curse word and every insult, and when his eyes widened in fear at the promise of a later 'punishment'.

It was then that Bokuto had attempted to leave in a hurry, apologizing for worrying Akaashi, yet Akaashi pulled his wrist and noted the wince of pain Bokuto released before wrapping him in a gentle hug, shushing him and patting his hair.
