The art is in fact mine, by the way.
This is DC, the nation's capital and aspiring 51st state.
Smart, stubborn, hardworking, and independent to the core, she places priorities such as work above all else, and gets annoyed with anyone who tries to get in the way of it. Because of this, at times she would isolate herself from the rest of the states for certain periods of time, which has kind of affected her social skills (she's grown to act quite awkward and a little tsundere over the years). She also wouldn't call herself "friends" with any of the states, though she is closest to Virginia and Maryland, whether she admits it out loud or not.
Many others often think DC's too serious and a 'stick-in-the-mud', though that's because they've probably forgotten how she can get whenever football season comes around and the Washington Football Team plays. I'd tell you not to say anything bad about her favourite football team, but then again the same could be said for the rest of the states too.
Extras (which will update when new headcanons come to mind)
•Her full human name is Danielle Connie Jones.
•Physically, she's nineteen years old.
•Out of all the other states personifications, she is the only one who shares America's human last name, though they've never decided if they had a brother-sister or father-daughter relationship.
•She has two curls on the side of her head (which in no way function in any way remotely close to the Italy brothers' curls, trust me, if you pull any of them all you'll get is a mildly-irritated capital city). They represent the houses of Congress; the higher one is the House of Representatives, and the lower one is the Senate.•••
~Mini Story: "Can I get a 'Capital Beltway Sandwich' with cheese?"
•••"So those idiots were right..."
Much to her own surprise, she took the advice of one of the states who said quote, "You should go out more, D.C.!". So, she did. And by that, she quite literally went outside and took an afternoon stroll. It wasn't exactly going out to some party or a bar or something, but it was a break from her work, so she decided that this counted too.
It was quite calming. Fluffy white cotton balls of clouds rolled over the endless blue sky, causing quite the sight for whoever were to look up at them. On ground level, the matured trees around her swayed gently with the breeze, and short fields of grass waved to them. And the best part of it all? No people. No distractions. Just her and the beautiful silence that came with it.
She should do this more often.
It was only until she glanced at the watch on her wrist that she realised both how long she'd been out and how late it had become. "I suppose I should head back inside now. I wonder how much crab cakes I have left over...", she thought to herself.
Arriving back home, of course after taking off her shoes, the first thing she did was make her way to the kitchen-
...Where she found Maryland casually drinking a Dasani water bottle while sitting on her countertop...
"...Hm..? Oh, 'sup DC!"
"What in God's name are you doing in my house?!"
The other laughed, putting his hands up in defence. "Geez, I thought you'd be happy to see your favourite state, I came over to visit ya!"
