You were in a white, glimmering dress. You'd curled your hair, and cherry blossom style berets clipped it back. Winged eyeliner and face sparkles completed your look.

However, Derek Black, who you'd wanted to ask you to dance, hadn't even turned your way.

"What's up y/n?" Harry asked. Your best friend had barely taken his eyes off you all night.

"I-I kinda wanted Derek to ask me to dance," you shrugged.

"Then why don't you ask him to dance?" Harry offered grudgingly. He was being sarcastic but it wasn't a bad idea. You knew if you tried you could work up the nerve to ask. You tentatively walked over.

"H-hey, Derek," you mumbled poking his shoulder gently. He turned away from laughing at something his friend said.

"I was wondering if you wanted to dance?" You asked slowly. Derek let out a mean laugh.

"Me dance with you?" He asked scathingly. "I don't think so," he pushed you away. You felt a slight pain in your chest as you backed away slowly.

"How'd it go?" Harry asked, a weak grin on his face.

"Just," You breathed.

"I need a second," You ran out as quickly as possible in your dress. You felt like you were Cinderella, running out of the ball, except no one cared that You were leaving. Just outside the gymnasium was a garden area for the younger kids to plant things.
You sat down on the stone bench. The darkness and moonlight glowing in patches made the garden look hauntingly beautiful.

You tried to squeeze tears from your eyes, to show some sort of sadness. You couldn't really muster any depressed feelings though which was odd. Maybe all along you'd known that Derek was kind of an ass, maybe you'd used him as an excuse. Pretending the reason no one else had asked you to dance was that you only wanted to dance with Derek, but in all honesty, it was simple. No one had asked you to dance.

"You alright?" Harry's deep syrupy voice rang throughout the garden.

"I, I don't know," You began. "It's odd, I thought I really liked Derek, but when he blew me off I wasn't really too surprised or sad. I think I stopped liking him a while ago."

Harry came closer and down with you on the bench. His large hand rubbed your back gently.

"I guess I just wanted SOMEONE to ask me to dance," you shrugged.

"In that case," Harry smiled and stood up, holding out his hand. "May I have this dance?" He asked, a wide grin on his face. You smiled back, accepting his hand.

The garden was close enough to the gymnasium that the music trickled out. A slow hum played as the two of you swayed. Harry laughed as he gave you a twirl. He caught you close to his body. You smiled and leaned into his chest. Surprisingly, you could feel that his heart was beating extremely fast. You looked up into his eyes to see them sparkling with happiness, his cheeks petal pink with a blush. You leaned back into him and stayed that way for a bit.

"Harry," you said suddenly. He looked down, a sort of haze over him as though he were drunk with happiness.

"May I kiss you," you asked cautiously.

"Yes," he breathed. He leaned down and his lips brushed against yours, and now it was your heart that was racing.
