I spent almost the whole night going through that witchcraft book. It was a really creepy book. It had weird seemingly useless spells, like how to trap someone's attention in a bottle so they'll never focus on anything. It also had a lot of disturbing images. There was one with a chain extending from within someone's stamach stretching all the way to someone else's wrist, it seemed like the one with the chain in their stomach was being dragged by the one with the chain in their wrist.
At a point, while I was reading the book, lying on my bed, my mum knocked. I remembered what my grandma said about my mum not liking that book, so I hid it underneath my covers just as my mum walked in.
"What are you doing?" My mum asked. "I thought you'd be asleep by now."
"Oh. I was just thinking about some things." I replied.
"What things?" She asked.
"Nothing important." I replied with a shrug. "Just school stuff."
"Oh,okay." She said. "Don't think too much. You could get a headache. Especially in your condition."
"Uh,yeah mum. I get that." I said with a plastered smile.
"Good night, Nicole."
"Good night, mum." I replied as she left and closed the door behind her.
I pulled the book out and continued to scan through it.
I think I eventually fell asleep, because next thing I knew it was Monday morning. Apart from that, I had another nightmare. A pretty vivid one.
I was walking down a street -for some reason I wasn't using my wheelchair, with a lot of empty, old cars parked at the sides.
Eventually I came across a play ground. A very dull and empty one. The whole dream was dull brown.
I didn't want to stop at the playground and so I decided to keep walking. But I stopped in my tracks when I heard the swing creak. I craned my neck only for me to see a girl, the girl, the one from my other nightmare, the one that ate me.
She was singing;
"Hickory dickory dock
The mouse ran up the clock
The clock struck eleven
The mouse ran down
Hickory dickory dock"
She was singing really softly, but it felt like her voice was coming from everywhere. As if her voice was air itself.
"Hickory dickory dock
The mouse ran up the clock
The clock struck TWELVE!" She shrieked the 'twelve'.
"The mouse ran down
Hickory....Dickory....DOCK!" She screamed as she immediately snapped her head in my direction. Her eyes rolled backwards and she smiled a devilish smile. "Oh. It's you again."
I started to run. I ran and ran until I couldn't see her or the play ground anymore. Then I stopped to catch my breath.
As I was panting she appeared right in front of me, almost shocking me to death.
"You can't run from me!" She said sternly. "Now listen!" She ordered as she grabbed my chin and lifted it. "You don't have much time left. I'm getting impatient, and I want to be real again. But the thing is, me and you can't exist together anymore. And I want back in! You're of no use apart from the fact that I need you to come back. Other than that, you're utterly useless. She dropped my chin and pushed me to the ground. After that she disappeared leaving me there on the side of the road.
I woke up feeling tired and exhausted. It was like I didn't even sleep. But it was a school day and I had to go.
Most of the day I had been thinking about the weird stuff I had seen in that book. It was so creepy, and I'd only gone thirty two pages. Looking at the size I was nowhere near quarter.
Lunchtime, Amira, Veronica and I decided to eat at the football field. It became our regular place to eat. We talked about crazy stuff like we usually did and a bunch of other things.
"Hey, you guys wanna come over to my house and make a scrap book?" Amira suggested.
"Sure!" I said.
"Why not?!" Veronica said. "I'll come with Nicole."
"Oh, okay. Sure." I said. "Hey, do you guys know I've been practicing my walking?!" I announced.
"Really?!" They both exclaimed.
"Yeah! I'm gonna quit the wheelchair soon!"
"How long have you been practicing?" Amira asked.
"Well, only about a week or so." I replied.
"Well, that's great!" Veronica exclaimed.
"I'm so happy for you!" Amira said.
"Hey, why don't we do a 'Use Your Legs' hang out thing?" I suggested. "That is when I do start using my legs."
"That sounds great!" Veronica said. "When are we gonna go to Amira's house anyways?"
"Uhhh-Saturday." Amira replied.
"Saturday is great!" Veronica and I said in unison, then we all laughed.
