Emma had gotten home to a quiet house. Knowing that Nicole preferred to spend her time in her room, she went up to check on her daughter.

She gave the room door a gentle knock and pressed her ear to it. There was no reply, and with the assumption that her daughter was probably asleep, she quietly opened the door and peeked inside.

Nicole wasn't in there, and this surprised Emma very much. She gave the room a quick glance, confused as to where her daughter could possibly be. After all, Nicole wasn't one to be out so late without permission.

She was just about to resign to panicking when she saw a piece of paper sticking out from underneath the pillow.

She walked over to it and picked it up. "Well, that's out of the blue." She mumbled as she read its contents. "Alright then."

She folded the paper and placed it in her pocket as she left the room, headed straight for the kitchen.

She grabbed a can of soda from the fridge and sat at the counter. Waiting patiently for her daughter's arrival.

Not quite long afterwards, in fact she wasn't even done with her soda, she heard someone enter the house through the front door. She got up and went to find out who it was.

"Oh, thank goodness." She sighed in relief when she saw that it was Nicole. "Let's go then."

She grabbed her car keys from the coat hanger and walked out the front door. She looked back, noticing that her daughter wasn't following her. "Aren't you coming?"

"Uh-yes." Nicole stuttered, looking very confused. "Yes, I'm coming."

They got into the car and Emma started driving. It was a very quiet ride for the first couple of minutes.

"Uhm-excuse me Em- uh-mum." Nicole suddenly said. "But where are we going?"

"To your grandma's house." She replied. "That's what you said in your note." She added as she pulled out the piece of paper from her pocket and handed it to Nicole. "Or is that not what you meant?" She said with a raised brow and her eyes fixed on the road.

"Y-yes." Nicole muttered as she collected the note from her mother. 'Take me to grandma's house when I get back.' It read.

"Did you forget?" Emma asked with a chuckle.

"I was having so much fun with Veronica." She replied. "I did forget." She lied.

She couldn't possibly blow her cover. She was starting to wonder what Nicole had in mind when she wrote that note. But for now, she had to play along. Contradiction would only make things more difficult. Besides, what's the harm in going to grandma's house.

"It's rather late though." Emma said. "But I'm sure your grandmother wouldn't mind. She's very fond of you."

They finally got to their destination. Margaret was seated outside as if she was expecting them.

"Finally, you're here!" She exclaimed as they descended the car. Apparently, she was expecting them. "Come in. Come in." She said, hurriedly ushering them into the house.

"It seems to me you knew we were coming." Emma said as she took a seat in the living room.

"I did." The old woman said. "She texted me." She added with a chuckle.

"You two better catch up then." Emma said with a smile.

"Indeed." She said. "Come dear, let's go inside." She said to a very distracted Nicole.

"Y-yes." Nicole said. "Let us." Margaret took her hand and guided her into the passage.

"What's this on your neck, dear." The old lady said, reffering to the tattoo of the upside down bouquet of flowers. Nicole rubbed the back of her neck nervously. "I hope it's not permanent, you're quite young for that." Nicole just laughed nervously.
