Ashton and I walked to school together that morning, since he was still shaken from telling me what had happened, I was stunned, too, to be completely honest with you, but more than anything, I was thankful to understand. I mean, I wish he would've told me sooner, but I'm glad I understood. The more I thought about it, the more I wondered how I would've handled being in a situation like that. I probably would've died, just saying.

"Razz..." Came Ashton's voice from beside me. "What do we do?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, turning to face him.
"If we...I...tell her...and she decides she hates me for fucking up her face...what do we do?"
"I seriously doubt she'll hate you. But if she does, you move on, you don't dwell on it, you don't hate her back." I told him. Ashton sighed and nodded.

We arrived at school about thirty minutes before class started, and Audrey was there as well.
"Hey..." Ashton was, surprisingly, the first to speak to her. She looked at him and kind of raised an eyebrow.
"Hi." She said after a few painful moments. "I think I caught your name was Ashton..."
Ash nodded. "That's me."
"Nice to meet you." Audrey said, somewhat dryly.

Ashton gave me an "I-can't-do-this" sort of look and I gave him the "Yes-you-fucking-can" nod, then he turned to Audrey.

"Audrey. You should know...All those years ago..." He began, Audrey turned around, he now had her full attention.
"I'm the one who threw the rock."
Audrey just stared.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you! I was eight, dammit!" Ashton half yelled.
Audrey did not respond.
"I swear to god I didn't want to hurt nobody! Now you've got a massive scar that distracts everyone that looks at you from who you really are, and it's all because of me."

That's when something happened that I could never have predicted:
Ashton sobbed. He just broke down, doubled over and fell to his knees. Audrey looked at me like "What the fuck just happened?" Then, she knelt down next to him and grabbed his shoulder.

"For christ's sake, Ash, it's just a scar! I'm still a normal kid, but I've got a less-than-normal face." Audrey said. "I've got a nice house, a nice big brother, a nice family, nice friends. Who the hell needs beauty when you have all that."

I found myself clapping at Audrey's words. She helped Ashton to his feet and gave him a hug.

Everything was wonderful.

That is when I noticed the skin around her scar seemed weirdly purple.
