"Main yahan hoon! " Came a voice from the door and Pari just ran to the woman screaming," Mishtuuu",forgetting the deal between her and Karishma.Mishti bent on her knees and took Pari in her embrace, holding her close, laughing out loud at her niece's excitement.
"Lo! Mishti di aa gayi!" Pankhuri said and the Rajvansh's and Maheshwari's slowly stood up turning towards the entrance, dreading to see the person.
Rajshree staggered on her feet and stumbled, only to land in her husband's arms as he gave her support. But soon Vishambar's legs gave up, seeing his daughter after almost 6 years. Varsha and Shaurya immediately held the couple by their shoulder, making them sit. The rest of the family stood there, shaken by the recent scene that took place before them.
Mishti had not noticed the shocked family, so she picked up Pari in her arms and got up, only to meet the most beautiful eyes that she had ever seen in her entire life. She could recognise those eyes anywhere. Those hazel orbs met her brown ones and that's when time froze.
"Abir." "Mishti." Their names came out of their mouths in a whisper as a reflex, even after 6 years.
The Raizada's and rest of the Kapoors stood there, confused as to what was happening. Karishma just stood there seeing Mishti's eyes turn red as tears threatened to escape her eyes.
The Rajvanshs and the Maheshwari's put two into two together and looked at Karishma, understanding everything now.
"Guys! Aap sab ek doosre ko jaante ho?" Vansh broke the pin drop silence with a question.
" Nahi! Hum inko nahi jaante hain!" Rajshree answered Vansh's question. " Yeh bas meri beti jesi dikhti hai. Woh beti jo mujhe bahut saal pehle chhod kar chali gayi thi. Nahi jaante hain na hum iss ladki ko Shaurya ke bauji? "
Mishti who was still lost in Abir's trance, heard Rajshree and you could literally hear the sound of her heart breaking.
Vishambhar didn't know what to say. He just kept mum, still looking at Mishti. Karishma looked at Shekhar's eyes for a second and he immediately understood what she was trying to convey. He understood that these were the Maheshwari's who had adopted Mishti and the Rajvansh's, Mishti's ex in-laws.
Quickly breaking the silence that prevailed in the room, Shekhar said, "Aree bhai, hum log yahan Ansh aur Ketki ke liye ikkhatta hue hain. Aap dono jaao aur ek doosre se akele mai baat karo. Pankhuri, Vansh dono ko koi akele mai jagah dikha do jaoo! " He ordered and continued, " Vishesh, Bhabhi, inn sab ke liye kuch khaane ko toh laayie na. Bhooka hi waapis bhejne ka iraada hai kya? "
Karishma pleaded with her eyes to the Maheshwari's and Rajvansh's to act normal as the Raizada's didn't know anything. Everyone then relaxed their tensed shoulders and the atmosphere got a little light.
Vishesh and Sumidha felt a little relaxed too as the guests were calm. They just laughed and said, "Bilkul nahi! Mai abhi kuch laati hoon aap sab ke kiye. Vishesh aao na meri help karo! "
Once all the people who didn't know anything about their history left, things became tense again.
" Pari, meri help karoge?" Mishti softly caressed Pari's head and asked. Pari nodded profusely. She could do anything if her Mishtu wanted, including eating bitter gourd and green vegetables. "Jaa kar thodi der apne room mai rest karo okay? Mai thodi der mai aapke paas aa jaungi. Promis-" Mishti couldn't even complete her sentence as Pari ran up the stairs to her room.
"Mai aap sab ko sab kuch batane ke kiye tayyar hoon. Par aaj nahi. Aaj ka din Vishesh uncle aur Sumidha aunty ke liye bahut important hain. Aur Ansh bhai aur Ketu, I mean Ketki ke liye bhi. Please kya aaj ke liye hum log dikha sakte hai ki sab normal hai? Please? " Mishti pleaded infront of the people she once called her family.
They understood where Mishti was coming from and sat down on the couch again.
Abir had a million questions running in his mind. How was she? Where was she these 6 years? How could she leave him? Was she with someone? Did she still love him? And how could she make him skip a heartbeat everytime he saw her?
She was perfect in a baby pink saree and his mind started showing flashes of their karwachauth before the marriage. His eyes glanced up and down her body, checking her out, only to stop at her neck where the pendant he gave was situated. She still wore it. He smiled like crazy from inside, looking at his left hand and the wedding band.Vishesh and Sumidha came out of the kitchen with some snacks and beverages and everyone started pretending that all was well.
"Mishtu, tu abhi tak darwaaze par kyu khadi hai? Andar aa na. Aur yeh Vansh and Pankhuri kahan gaayab hogye? Agar inn dono ne Ansh aur Ketki ko pareshan kiya na toh inki kher nahi! " Sumidha said, keeping the plates on the table and sitting down.
" Relax aunty. Aapka BP badh jaaega agar ab Vansh par itna gussa karoge toh! Main unn dono ko dhoondh kar aati hoon. Aap kuch khaaiye and fir aap chaaro apni dawaiyan le lijie. Mumma, Shekhar uncle, betho na. "Mishti said, walking in and across the hall to find Vansh and Pankhuri.
Everyone was shocked to see the bond that this family and Mishti had. This is how Ketki behaved with the Rajvansh's or Kuhu behaved with the Maheshwari's. Mishti was literally the daughter of this family.
Kuhu was angry. Mishti was back in their lives and she didn't like it. Now this Mishti drama was gonna take away all the attention Kuhu and her unborn baby deserved. But somewhere deep - deep - deep inside, she was happy to see Mishti. Maybe it was because they had spent more than 15 years of their lives together or maybe because she felt a little guilty. Guilty? Why was she feeling guilty? Everyone blamed her when Mishti left Rajkot, so all she should be is angry. But one sensible brain cell left her body was poking her about her wrongdoings.
Mishti came back with Pankhuri and Vansh by her side as they were talking about something and Mishti laughed at something stupid Vansh said. Pankhuri and Mishti sat down on the couch opposite to the Rajvansh's. Vansh went to sit with his parents and talk to them a little. Pankhuri kept her head on Mishti's shoulder, exhausted. Sumidha and Vishesh were having a conversation with the elders about the world, news and politics.
But the youngsters' attention was still at Mishti. Pankhuri was talking about what a tiring day she had and Mishti was massaging her forehead and listening to her keenly. Karishma was just admiring her daughters and their beautiful bond.
After a few moments, Ansh and Ketki came from the backyard. Everyone stood up and looked at the duo with curious eyes. They both just nodded at their families and looked down, shying away. At this moment everyone forgot that there was any tension in the room and they just started celebrating, feeding each other sweets and hugging each other.
"Achha Vishesh, Sumidha beta, ab hum log chalte hain. Kal milenge. " Nanu said and the Raizada's and Kapoor's came to bid adieu to the guests who were now their samdhis.
Abir's eyes lingered at Mishti for a minute, conveying that this wasn't over and she shuddered at his glare.
The Raizada's and Kapoor's walked inside but Mishti decided to stay at the porche for a moment. She was just standing there, absorbing what had taken place today, when a paper came flying to her feet.
"Tomorrow!
346, Chatrapati Apartments
Shivaji Road, Bandra" it said and she looked here and there to find out who it was and saw a retreating figure who had worn glasses.Abir! It had to be him. He wanted answers and that too tomorrow and she wasn't ready for it.
