Hayley and Blake ran from what they thought would be their doom. They ran from their psychopathic father; the terror of their childhood. Hayley ran down the hill with ease, however, Blake tumbled and rolled, but came up on one knee, despite his dizziness. They pushed on, through the thick trees of the decrepit, haunted, forbidden forest. They had to get as far away from home as they could. Before Blake could warn her, Hayley ran into someone. They couldn't see his facial features as they were covered with a black and white mask. He wore a yellowish, mustard-like jacket and black jeans. If it wasn't for the mask, the two of them would have mistaken the man for a casual, middle aged person, who was strolling quietly through the forest. It took Hayley mere seconds to realise who he was. She backed away slowly as he turned to her.
"You two are far from home, aren't you." He spoke softly, his voice was laced with a kindness that Hayley had never seen before. She had never really witnessed kindness. All she had witnessed was pain and sorrow. Her eyes portrayed that of a candle who's wick had long burnt out. There was no light in her eyes anymore. There hadn't been for a long time.
Her brother, Blake, spoke at last.
"What's it to you, kid? I mean, if you're gonna hurt us, then get on with it." The man laughed but Blake stood his ground.
"I'm not gonna hurt you. I can't say the same for my boss, but I'm not gonna." The man spoke again, his gaze directed more at Hayley, than Blake.
"What's your name's?" He asked, pulling out a cigarette that Hayley knocked out of his hand, quickly.
He looked at her and sighed.
"So you're one of those, huh? The ones who restrict people of what they can do, just because of it being "unhealthy"?!" He asked, meeting her gaze as she growled.
"No. It just reminds me of something." She said quietly.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude." She added, shivering.
He looked her up and down and sighed again.
"Come with me." He said softly.
"Neither of you have anywhere to go and it's getting late." He looked at them and all Hayley could do was nod. Blake didn't react but followed his younger sister. Though he was older, Hayley had the better judgement and if she trusted the man in the mask, then so did he.
