Hayley woke up the next morning, surrounded by pillows and comfort. She didn't remember much from the night before. But what she did remember, is that she fell asleep in the arms of the first person to actually care about her since Katelyn died. No one really called her Katelyn. Everyone called her Katie. It's shorter and easier to spell, she thought. The thought of her little sister, brought tears to her eyes. Tears that were quickly swept away by the gentle touch of Masky. The only person, it seemed, that cared for her.
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close and warding off the morning chill.
"It's 8AM and you're crying... what's wrong?" He asked softly. She looked up into his hazel eyes. His eyes were like glistening marbles, shining with worry for his friend.
"Oh... I was just thinking about something.. I'm okay, I promise." She said softly, rubbing the back of his hand with her thumb gently. He smiled at her comforting touch and soon returned the comfort with a warm hug. He brushed a strand of hair out of her face and placed it behind her ear.
"Get ready... breakfast will be ready soon." He said softly. She nodded and wandered towards her closet as he left her to get ready. She changed into black socks, a pair of grey jeans and a white hoodie. She pulled on her slippers and went downstairs to the kitchen.
"You need direction signs in this place." She muttered, gaining a soft laugh from Masky and E.J. She slid into a seat next to Masky and Blake sat as far away from her as he could.A fresh breakfast of eggs, toast and bacon was laid out before them. Hayley thanked Slenderman but waited until everyone else was served before beginning her breakfast.
"So~. Hayley." Came a voice from the end of the table. It was a young girl's voice. She had pale skin and black hair.
"Tell us about yourself." She finished looking over at her.
Hayley bit her lip and stayed quiet."She doesn't talk much. Do you Hayley?" Came the cold voice of her brother.
"And you don't shut up." Hayley snapped back and turned to Slenderman.
"Can I be excused... please...?" She said softly, her voice cracking slightly.
He nodded to her and she ran to her room, dived on her bed and buried her face in her pillow, crying. She felt someone sit beside her.
"H-Hey...." Came an unfamiliar voice. She looked up at him and swallowed.
"H-hi?" She said quietly, wiping her tears with her sleeve of her hoodie and lay back down. Masky wrapped his comforting arms around her gently, hugging her tightly and soothing her hair as she cried.
She sniffled and buried her face in his shoulder gently. Usually her brothers words wouldn't get to her but he'd caught her off guard.
"Why am I such a fucking bitch?" She asked which was replied to with a low growl from Masky.
"You're not. He's just a dickhead. You're amazing. Don't let that motherfucker tell you otherwise." He replied, wiping her tears once again. She rested her head on his shoulder gently and finally stopped crying.
"Would anyone be mad if I punched him?" Asked Hayley which made him shrug.
"With what just happened, probably not." He said softly.
Hayley looked up at him and smiled.
"Well~. I could always just do it... he's done nothing but hurt me, since the day that I turned six. Would it really be wrong, to give him less than what he gave me?" She asked, her eyes locking onto his. He bit his lip, deep in thought.
"Let's go." He whispered, finally. They both walked to the kitchen and towards Blake. He growled, but said nothing.
Hayley swung the first punch. It was reinforced by the anger, the agony, the sorrow. The punch hit Blake across the jaw and they heard the shatter of bone. To Hayley, it was a beautiful sound. The sound of revenge. She walked out as Slender walked in.
"Stop, Hayley." He said firmly.
"What? Am I in trouble for self defence? For causing him less pain than he caused me? I don't care if I'm in trouble at this point. There's not much that you can really do to make me regret it." She said, ever so calmly. Masky stood, silent and shocked.
"Hayley, child. I need you to explain why you did this. You've shattered his cheekbone." Slenderman told her.
"No. I know." She said and walked to the living room.
She sat on the floor, twirling a pen around with her fingers. She looked up as Hoodie sat next to her.
"It's you again." She said in mock surprise.
"What happened between you and Blake?" He asked bluntly.
"That's not exactly any of your business." She replied and she felt a comforting hand on her shoulder. Masky.
She leant into his touch. She felt safe when he was around her. He smiled softly and stroked her hair gently. If this was a dream, Hayley didn't wanna wake up.
