Hi everyone!!
Since I'm going to be very busy tomorrow, I'm updating on Thursday rather than Friday with my new challenge - my favourite Brunch Bake!
I don't get to make this very often (try never!! Dramaqueen alert) but it is SO worth it.
My EBB should be enough for three people, only it DOES have some bacon (!) in it.
Ingredients:
8 slices of white bread
Butter to spread
about 3 fresh tomatoes (2 if they're REALLY big)
Bacon (BACOOOOON! XD) (I really hate bacon. lol)
3 big-arsed eggs.
350 ml milk
grated cheese (you can grate it yourself, of course... whatever cheese you like, I prefer cheddar but it can get expensive)
Salt & Pepper
You will also need the deepest oven casserole dish you have (:
Okay, here it goes.
Step 1: el bread & butter puddin (:
This is actually like a breakfast kind of B&B pudding. So I want you to butter ALL the pieces of bread thinly. On two pieces, please butter both top and bottom. You can use any bread for this - stale, or even the ends that nobody wants to eat. But you really, REALLY don't want to use any bread darker than white! Trust me... it gets ugly... Okay, now that you've buttered your bread, cut off the crusts. Once the bread is crust-less, take the pieces that were buttered on each side and place them in the dish. The extra butter on the bottom side will help it not to stick.
Step 2: el slico!
This is the bit where you slice the tomatoes (not too thinly!) and dice up the raw bacon. It's okay! The bacon will be baked along with the rest and will be reduced to little bacon bits (: it'll be great, trust me.
Step 3: el whisko!
This is easily done by hand. 3 whole eggs + milk, and whisk that up baby! Season with salt & pepper and whisk a little more (: This forms a kind of savoury custard.
Step 4: el layering!
The easy part. You already have the two slices of bread side-by-side in the casserole dish, so now what you have to do is layer up the tomato, sprinkle some bacon over it, and then add 2 more slices of bread, butter-side up! Just keep layering until everything's gone. Now pour the egg/milk mix on top so that it can sink into the bread.
Step 5: el oven!
Once the entire dish has settled for 10 minutes, add the grated cheese on top and stuff it in the oven at 180 celcius. (I'm using the proper recipe's temperature instead of my own, by the way). Bake for 35 minutes
Step 6: Que approveche!
See?! I didn't COMPLETELY lose out in my Spanish class! It means enjoy your food (: Just take a huge big spoonful (: It's totally worth it.
Aaaaand that's it for this week's challenge! It's not too bad, now is it?! Really, it's even easier than it sounds. Of course if you wanted to you could add mushrooms... yeah I didn't think so.
