For the past couple of nights, myself and my housemates have been constantly complaining about how hungry we were. Tonight, the complaints were more of the 'I'm so stuffed!' variety. I didn't quite realise how much rice and egg was involved in these things. So I made chips as well... We managed to eat it all... Just.
Right, review-wise, I really liked it. I used a tomatoey sauce and added some scallions and cheese along with the rice. Plenty of flavour! And REALLY filling. But may I say, you said it was EASY! All I'm going to say is you over-estimated my skills with a frying pan and spatula. Flipping omeletes is one of my worst nightmares! Still, they stayed in one piece. Go me!
Despite your attempts to convert me, I'm staying on the 'no washing' side of the rice argument. I didn't notice a difference at all, apart from the time I spent in the kitchen was significantly longer than usual. It didn't help that the rice was too thin (when cold) for all the drainers we had. So I had to try my hardest to drain the water off with nothing but the lid. At least when the rice is hot, it sticks to the sides and doesn't threaten to spill into the sink at every jerk of your hand. After scooping the rice out of the sink for the third time I was, I'll admit, feeling not so friendly towards you as I usually do. But that did change once we were past that terrible part.
The omelete mixture was the easiest part. Like I said before, however, flipping the omeletes was NOT fun for me. I stood there, eying the frying pan hesitantly for a few minutes before deciding to man up and just flip the dang thing. It kind of fell into a heap the first time, but I managed to right it. No harm done. And the second was much easier. Folding them was... fun... They kind of just looked like an omelete hugging a fat mash of rice and straining to reach. Is that how they're supposed to look? Like those clip on koala bear things. We have one for our Christmas tree (don't ask me why... I never got an answer myself :P)
Anyway, conclusion: Tasty - not as easy as Debs promises, but worth it!
