Chapter 6 - I killed someone innocent..
Melody POV
When the 2 minutes were over, Rachel and I broke apart, both breathing heavier than before. Rachel blushed fiercely and looked away. Lavender and Miranda were giggling non-stop.
"Hey Rachel, don't be so shy." I said, offering my hand to her. She waved it off, pulling her knees up to her chest, burying her head in her arms. "Listen, Rach, whatever it is you can say it to me, want to go outside, get some privacy?" I asked her, desperate to get her somewhat happy again. What had I done wrong? Had I hurt her? I had been so careful not to lose control, not to let my sharp teeth touch her lips. Rachel nodded once as an answer to my question and I took her hand to drag her outside. I waited until she started to speak, not wanting to press her.
"Are you.. y'know, gay?" Rachel, asked me. I was completely stunned. My first thought: No of course not. But then I began to doubt what I'd assumed as the truth for so long.
"No, I'm not Rach, why?" I asked, as calm as I could manage.
"N-nothing." She muttered. She looked down, suddenly very interested in her pink bunny slippers.
"Listen, Rach, I've got nothing against homosexuals. In case you are one." I added quickly because I wasn't even sure whether my conclusion was right or not. I could still hear Miranda and Lavender laugh their heads off in the room upstairs.
"You see, Miranda and Lavender know I am.. gay. That's why they made me do this, because you are so unacceptably beautiful." She looked me up and down and looked away again, blushing.
"Rachel, you have nothing to be embarrassed of, OK? Just be yourself and you'll be fine. I won't judge you on your sexual interests! I love you for who you are. As a friend." I added quickly.
"Thanks Mel, you didn't have to say that. I'm tired, let's get back inside and go to bed." Rachel said. Finally, I would get to feed. I nodded and we walked back in silence.
"Ooooh, what did you two do outside?" Lavender teased. I shot her a not-the-perfect-time-for-jokes-look. Her eyes turned apologetic when she saw Rachel, whose eyes were red and puffy from crying. "Sorry." She whispered, though I wasn't entirely sure if we were meant to hear it.
"Well, that was interesting." Miranda mumbled. No one replied and we all sat therein silence a couple of minutes, until I could no longer cope with the tension.
"Alright, let's go to bed, it's 1 a.m. already." I said, clapping my hands. Each of the girls mumbled their own OKs, and we went to bed.
When I was sure they were asleep, I jumped out of the window in one fluid motion, and made ran over the wet pavement. I'd decided I would take an old pervert who was about to rape some girl. Or, at least I hoped to find a person with those 'qualities'. But as soon as I smelled the first human, I snapped. I went into instinct mode as I smelled the wonderful clean and innocent blood of a girl my, well, Rachel's age. I crouched and then jumped, sinking my teeth into her soft skin as I found what I was looking for; blood. She didn't have time to scream or to realize what was happening. When she was completely drained, I pulled away and looked at her limp body, her eyes still opened wide in shock. Her eyes had a greyish purple kind of colour, long red eyelashes framing them. She was a really pretty girl from about 16 years old, and I remembered her as one of the girls which sat at lunch with me and Rachel. Suddenly a stream of feelings made me collapse.
