Melody POV
Chapter 7 – Game over
I was torn, completely torn. But somehow, my angel’s arms wrapped around me to comfort me. Somehow, my angel didn’t think me a monster. Was it because I didn’t seem to be the monster I was? Or was it.. because he knew how it felt to be taken over by it, and wanted to rip the monster out of my body? I didn’t know, but I didn’t need to know. Knowledge wasn’t worth anything compared to love. I knew his heart was taken, taken by his soul mate. Taken by the one he loved, and would always love. But something, something in my quiet heart, made me believe I had a chance. Something else, my mind it seemed, knew we weren’t meant to be. And another part, maybe the angel in me that wanted me to do everything good for everyone, said to give Rachel a chance. Why? Because the way she kissed me made me feel all tingly inside. Like in a cheesy novel.
Then there was another problem, if you count my love-life a problem. I guess you could. The other problem was less complicated, and easier to solve. If I wanted to solve it, was a more difficult question. Did I want the Cullens to know I was a vampire? Or was my game.. too good, too appealing for me to stop? Was it just like the blood I drank from the girl? I couln’t restrain myself; I was a monster. A killing machine on auto-pilot. One that didn’t require installation, or a steersman. One that was perfect for the job.
I didn’t have any time to think about my decision: we were nearing the Cullen’s house and I would soon be within Edward’s gift reach, too.
There was a third, temporarily problem. I knew how Edward’s gift worked; but how did humans dream?
Too many questions, too many problems, too much pressure. And no time. I had no choice but to start thinking about the girl I’d killed, but instead of remembering what had truly happened, I imagined a vampire walk towards us and kill her and drink her, but she didn’t dare to touch me. “I didn’t understand why.” I thought, trying to mislead Edward. [A/N she has to keep her mind under control and make Edward believe stuff, that’s what’s going on if u haven’t noticed. Read on already xD]
When Carlisle took me into his house, I had replayed the scene already 30 times and I was getting crazy: I hated watching how my friend got killed, thinking how cruel the murderer was only to later realize it was myself. But my thoughts didn’t reveal anything.
“She didn’t do it.” Edward muttered as Carlisle laid me down on the couch.
“I knew she didn’t. She is a human, Edward.” Carlisle said, his voice uneven.
“You don’t know that. I still highly doubt it.” Edward answered.
I stirred slightly, hoping this would seem human, and started dreaming, only it wasn’t fake. Even if I wasn’t asleep, I was dreaming. I saw Carlisle, smiling. He was gorgeous as he stood on the beach, his arms open to envelop me in a hug. Just hugging him made me feel happy inside, but I wanted more. As we both leaned in our lips almost touched, but then the dream became a nightmare. Something- no someone was wrapped in flames as it knocked over Carlisle. I made a high-pitched sound which sounded worse than a scream as they fought. There was no way Carlisle could win, because he seemed afraid to touch the fire, to even come close. I was afraid to see the creature kill Carlisle, until I saw who it was: Rachel. She didn’t look like herself anymore as the flames ate up all of her lower body and was alive in her eyes. I screamed again, wanting both to stop, but I knew I could only choose one. I HAD to choose.
I was woken by a whisper: but it wasn’t my Angel’s whisper. This one was different, but it had the same, caring tone about it.
“Melody, it’ll be alright. No one will make you choose, shhh.” Edward whispered, wrapping his arms around my shaking body.
And I cried, I cried real salty tears, until I was empty. Until Edward’s shirt was soaked. But then I heard voices.
“Hey, how was the hunt?” Carlisle asked the incoming .. “people”.
“Thanks, it was great.” A male said.
“Carlisle, what’s with the smell?” Rosalie scoffed.
“Well, I found Melody. She didn’t kill the girl, she found her and was crying over her. She was sleeping here and she woke up from a nightmare. Edward is calming her down.” Carlisle answered in a flat, emotionless tone.
“Carlisle, listen, this is dangerous. She cries, she sleeps, she blushes she has blue eyes. I don’t care if those are ‘human signs’, she is DANGEROUS. She just SCREAMS appealing and attractive, and it’s even worse than our ‘appealingness’. It’s a trap, maybe even the Volturi’s.” The male from earlier whisper-shouted.
“Jasper, behave yourself.” Alice snapped.
“I think Jasper’s right.” Rosalie said, “We shouldn’t trust her. We should move.”
“I agree.” I heard Emmett say. Just because it was Rose, I bet.
“I agree.” I heard Edward whisper from beside me.
“If Edward does, so do I.” A girl I hadn’t heard before said.
“Mom & dad know what’s right. So I agree.” A voice of a seemingly younger girl said.
“Hmpf.” Alice said. I pictured her crossing her arms.
“I guess,” Carlisle sighed, “That means more agree than disagree. I will bring Melody to her apartment and then we’ll go. On our way we will find Esme.” Carlisle said, his voice flat again.
They were going to move, out of Forks. No.. no way. I wasn’t losing Carlisle.
“NOOOO!” I screamed, jumping out of Edward’s arms in the process and knocking him over.
-GAME OVER-
Yes, this game was definitely over.
