2020 has been a tumultuous year for the United States of America. The Trump administration has been equally chaotic, especially since it has made a habit of dismantling the United States Constitution. That is why I decided to update the supreme law of the land.

Welcome to The 3rd Constitution of the United States of America.

For the record: I have no background, training, or work history in law, politics, or political science. I do, however, have an interest in American history and government, including the U.S. Constitution. So, I decided to take the initiative and rewrite the document.

Most of the original language has remained the same. Being an ex-copy editor, though, I smoothed out the diction and syntax as best and as much as I could. I made additions and changes where I thought they were needed, and these consisted of my own ideas and other documents, such as the Johnson Amendment and the Second Bill of Rights. I consulted various online and physical sources for research. Therefore, I would like to thank the Founding Fathers and all of the other writers, lawmakers, thinkers, etc., who had a hand in shaping the constitutions.

My intention was to create a document that would truly grant freedom, liberty, democracy, and fairness to the inhabitants and citizens of the United States. I lean left ideologically, and this affected how I approached writing the document. I do not believe that this country is inherently conservative, but I do believe that conservatives have had and still have too much power and influence over the nation.

The 3rd Constitution is divided as follows:

1. The preamble explains what The 3rd Constitution is and what it is supposed to do.

2. Article I establishes The 3rd Constitution as a successor to the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution, as well as the new constitutional naming conventions.

3. Article II outlines the powers and responsibilities of Congress.

4. Article III details the executive powers of the federal government, including the president, the vice president, and the cabinet.

5. The U.S. Supreme Court and the nation's judicial powers are the topic of Article IV.

6. Article V is concerned with the relationship between the federal and subnational governments. It also details how these governments should be organized.

7. All of the amendments to the U.S. Constitution, as well as many similar laws, are collected in Article VI.

8. Article VII details how to amend The 3rd Constitution.

9. Article VIII upholds the national debt and establishes The 3rd Constitution as the supreme law of the land.

10. Article IX explains how The 3rd Constitution is to be ratified, and it also contains the closing endorsement.

Will this document ever be adopted as the country's next constitution? I have no idea, but it would be nice, even if only partially. Maybe I should get my head out of the clouds, but something needs to be done to protect this country against its foreign and domestic enemies.

If you have any constructive comments, suggestions, or criticisms, then feel free to share them. Who knows? I might change this piece because of them if I do not have any second thoughts of my own. In any event, readers will know in a separate part dedicated to amendments. Also, text that is in between carets ("< >") has been repealed by amendments.

Otherwise, I hope you enjoy The 3rd Constitution of the United States of America.

Happy reading!
