Patton ran to catch up with his brother and roommate, Logan, who was walking quickly to work, a book in his hands.
"Logan!" He shouted after him. Logan turned around, slightly annoyed.
"Patton, you're going to make me late." he stated. "I'll be back this afternoon. I know you get lonely, but—"
"No!" Patton shouted. "You're right...but you forgot your lunch, silly!" he laughed, handing a bagged lunch to him. Logan rolled his eyes.
"Thanks. See you this afternoon." he waved and kept speed-walking towards the crosswalk. Patton laughed and waved in return, looking back to his apartment.
He was pretty far away from the apartment...but he would probably be fine...
Only seconds after he began walking, he was stopped by a group of college kids.
"Woah there!" One of the kids said. He grabbed Patton's shoulder, making him jump.
"Are you lost or something?" Patton laughed uncomfortably and slowly pried the kids' hand from his shoulder.
"N-No, I'm just h-heading home..." The kid kept his hand firm on Patton's shoulder and laughed.
"Why don't you come with us, hm?" he asked, pulling Patton forward. Patton swallowed, slightly panicking before a familiar voice shouted after them...
"Excuse me!" The voice shouted. Patton turned to see Logan and sighed shakily in relief, having been about to have an anxiety attack. Logan stepped in front of the group. The boy looked at him questioningly.
"Can I help you?" he asked, very annoyed. Logan shook his head.
"Uh, yes." he said walking forward and grabbing Patton's wrist, pulling him away from the group. "I was just looking for my brother. And I'll be taking him home now...if that's OK with you." he said this smugly in full-on protection mode.
The kid reached back to scratch his neck and replied, "Yeah. Whatever." Then he kept walking, his friends following his lead and leaving Patton and Logan. Logan began walking forward, pulling Patton along with him.
They walked in silence for a minute before Patton swallowed and looked up at Logan.
"L-Logan..." he started. Staring straight ahead, Logan managed,
"Next time I forget my lunch, I'll eat out." he said, his voice wavering a bit.
From that moment on, Patton was never allowed to walk home alone ever again.
