Remus awoke with a start after one of the worst dreams of his life. He often had dreams about Janus, Virgil, and even Roman abandoning him...but this one was so much worse...

They all hated him...Remus didn't know why he hadn't seen that before. Why else would they have left?

Sighing, he stood up to go and get some water, feeling extremely parched for an unknown reason. Wait, no...probably because he had been crying more than on average. Yeah, that was it.

As he stepped out into the hallway and walked to the kitchen, he was caught off guard by Rage who was standing in the kitchen as well.

What time is it...Remus thought. Rage waved to him guiltily.
"Remus..." he started. "I-I'm sorry...I didn't mean to—"
"It's alright." Remus interrupted, having heard this apology one too many times. Rage scowled at him.
"Don't interrupt me." he spat and Remus held up his hands.
"Sorry, sorry." he stated, grabbing his water and beginning to head back to his room.

"Oh, so that's it?" Rage asked, walking up to Remus and grabbing his collar. "I haven't seen you at all for three days and that's all I get out of you? Is that how much you care?"

Oh no. No, no, no, no, no...an episode was beginning to start right behind him...wasn't it...

And Remus couldn't escape.

Breathing in shakily, Remus turned slowly to face Rage.
"OK...I'm gonna need you to take some deep breaths. And let go of me." Rage scoffed.
"Oh? So, that's all I am to you? An angry beast that you have to take care of? Hm?"
Remus shrugged. "If you want our relationship to be anything more, you're gonna need to calm down."

Wrong answer.

Rage began seething out of nowhere, causing Remus to yelp. His eyes were glowing orange.
"hoW dARE YOU SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY!" Rage screamed this louder than Remus had ever heard.

Then Remus screeched as Rage began kicking and punching him. Over. And over...quite painfully. He was a goner. He couldn't sink out unless he could get Rage to let go of him (since he was still holding onto Remus's collar). He got him in the stomach, leg, arm, back, and then extra painfully his eye, grunting in between each hit. Remus held a hand over his eye and fell to the ground, sobbing now when Rage kicked him harshly in the ankle. This was Remus's worst nightmare...

There was no escape. No one to help him. No one to save him.
"WHAT? YOU'RE SCARED OF ME? IS THAT ALL I AM?!?! A MONSTER?!"
Remus pulled desperately at the hand around his collar as more and more hits were delivered painfully to him, cowering on the ground. Then Rage bit Remus's hand and began scratching at his desperate arms while they tried to remove the hand from his collar.

"YOU CAN'T ESCAPE ME!" he shouted. Then Remus remembered something Janus used to tell him.
If you ever get stuck fighting with Rage, you have to fight back. He won't stop fighting. If you wait it out, you'll only get more hurt. OK?...
So Remus, hiccuping and sobbing, reached up and punched Rage in the chin as hard as he could, causing Rage to stagger backward in shock and release Remus's collar.

He was furious, even more so than before if that was even possible...but Remus was free, and he sunk out right then and there without another thought.

He rose up into the light side of the mind scape on the floor in front of the couch. All the lights were off and no one was in the room to hear Remus's stifled sobbing and painful groaning. Good thing too. Remus didn't want anyone seeing him like this. Looking up at the clock on the microwave in the kitchen, Remus realized that it was two in the morning. At least he was alone.

Trying to hold in his sobs so he wouldn't wake anyone, he painfully held his now bleeding arms and examined the scratch marks. They were deep. Really deep. And somehow looking at them made it even more painful.

Although he tried, he was failing (much to his discontent) to hold in his painful sobs.

A light flipped on by the stairs and Virgil peeked around the corner.
He was probably still awake. Remus thought to himself, memories flooding his mind. But not for long. He was brought back to the present from his pain.

Virgil walked into the living room hesitantly, most likely extremely confused.
"Who...who is that?" he asked. Then he got to the front room and looked down at Remus. His expression turned to one of rage, but only for a moment. Then he was confused again.

He flipped in the light switch to see Remus, covered in bruises, bloody gashes in his arms, and sobbing on the floor. Virgil immediately forgot all the rage he had in him and fell to his knees next to him.

"Remus, oh my—are you OK? What...what happened??? This looks really bad." Remus winced as Virgil tried to touch him, and Virgil backed off.
"You...you left me alone with him..." Remus started, sobbing immediately after.
"What? Alone with...with..." Virgil started, and then it looked as though all the memories of waiting out the episodes together came rushing back to him in an instant. He looked horrified as he realized exactly what had happened. Remus didn't need to say another word.

"Remus...I'm so sorry, I..." And Remus began sobbing again, Virgil immediately wrapping his arms around him. He pulled out his phone in the hug.
"What...what are you doing?" Remus asked, confused as to why anyone would care.
"Texting Janus." Virgil replied. That was not what he meant.

"What?! No, don't—"
"He knows better than I do." Virgil replied, sending the message and putting his phone down. Remus just sobbed again as Virgil continued to hug him, rocking him back and forth.
