Stacie POV
The doctors and nurses took the babies away for testing and Donald and I waited nervously. Beca walked in with Jesse and Bella just as the doctor and nurse came back in.
"Good news and bad news, Miss Conrad." The doctor said. My heart skipped a beat. Bad news echoed through my head.
"The good news?" Donald asked.
"One of your babies, Ember Hope, is perfectly fine. No issues at all." The nurse said.
"But the bad news is your other daughter, Amali Rose, may be deaf. We are recommending a doctor for you to take her to this week, but the odds of her being deaf are very high. We will give you all some time to process this information." The doctor said as he and the nurse walked out. I was speechless. We all were. My mind was so scattered. 'How?' I thought. 'How am I gonna raise a deaf kid? Where do I even start?'
"Babe, we can do this. I know its definitely gon be hard but we'll work it out. I promise." Donald said as he grabbed my hand. I nodded and looked at Beca and Jesse with their little Bella.
"Can I see them?" I asked the doctor that was loitering around the door.
"Yes, I'll get them."
The doctor soon brought one of my daughters in, and the nurse brought the other. As I held them both in my arms for the first time a tear ran down my face. Identical twins. I checked their hospital bracelets. Ember was in my right arm and Amali in the other. I smiled at both of them.
"C-Can I hold her?" Donald asked nervously. I nodded and he picked up Amali. He checked her bracelet and his smile drooped.
"Can I hold her?" Beca asked.
"Yeah." I smiled. She picked Ember up and kissed her forehead.
"They're both beautiful. Congratulations Stacie." Jesse said and hugged me.
I couldn't believe it. Me. A mum. Of twins!
-15 YEARS LATER-
"Ember! Wake Amali up please!" I yelled from the kitchen.
"She's up! She's just getting dressed!" Ember yelled back. Ember and Amali are both in high school now. Amali goes to a deaf school and Ember just goes to a normal one. It hasn't been easy, but as Amali grew up we all learnt sign language. Donald took off when the girls were 6, with some whore. But I took it in and it made me stronger. The girls know all about it, they were old enough to remember it. Both girls came down stairs and I signalled them to come over to the bench.
"Now, remember we're going to Aunt Beca's this afternoon straight after you get home. We'll probably have dinner there, don't forget okay?" I said and signed at the same time. Amali does speak, but she prefers not to. She can read lips most of the time but she doesn't like to unless she has to.
"Yep, we won't forget." Amali signed.
"Okay good, here's your lunches. Ember, go, you'll miss the bus if you don't. Bye sweetie." I gave Ember a kiss on the cheek and she grabbed her bag and ran out the door.
