The next morning I woke up and went to all of my classes. Hogwarts was incredibly different from how I left it. Everyone walked in orderly lines throughout the hallway and all of the happiness was sucked away.
The classes were dreadful because, even if we had mostly the same teachers, rules were making it so we could barely do anything as we used to. The worst part was I spent all day alone since Draco wasn't here and Neville was nowhere to be seen.
I was walking through the halls back to the common room until I was stopped by a familiar voice.
"Graham, come with us, " a woman said behind us in a far from pleasant way. I took a deep breath then slowly turned around to see the Carrow siblings looking back at me. They turned around and quickly walked down the hallway. I followed after them just as they had asked.
They turned into a room and shut the door behind us. When we were inside I gasped at what was in front of me.
Neville was tied up tightly in a chair. He looked at me with a shocked face then looked down at my arm. My tattoo was covered by my sleeve but he knew it was there whether I showed it or not. I looked guiltily towards the ground knowing he wouldn't want to be friends with me anymore.
"If you will be joining us at this school you must learn how things are done, " Amycus Carrow said while pulling out his wand. I looked from him back to Neville, realizing exactly why I was here.
"Crucio, " Amycus said while pointing his wand at Neville. I flinched and looked away from the chair in which he sat. I heard Neville struggling but it wasn't nearly bad as I expected it to be. He must be so used to it at this point that it didn't affect him as much.
"Now it's your turn, " Alecto said while turning to look at me. I thought about protesting but knew it wouldn't do any good.
I slowly pulled my wand out from my robe pocket and pointed it towards Neville. He looked at me with sadness and betrayal. I felt terrible but I had to do this otherwise I would be in huge trouble.
I mouthed the words I'm sorry, making sure that neither of the Carrow's saw me.
"Go on, what are you waiting for, " Amycus said angrily.
I did the motion with my wand in my shaky hand and attempted the spell non verbally. I wasn't ready to say something as dreadful as the cruciatus curse out loud.
"Cast the spell already, " Alecto said while raising her voice.
I took a deep breath then said, "crucio." Nothing happened.
"What are you doing you, stupid girl, "Amycus yelled in a frustrated tone.
"If you don't torture him now you will be the one sitting in that chair, " Alecto threatened.
I looked away from their terrifying faces and back at Neville. I knew I wouldn't be able to cast the spell because it only works when you truly want to put that person in pain.
"Crucio, " I said once again. This time Neville appeared to be struggling once again. That didn't make any sense because I didn't feel the spell coming from my wand. Could it be possible he was acting?
I was hopeful, maybe this meant Neville and I could still be friends. Even if I was on the wrong side, I could just explain I was forced to join.
"Finally, it was about time, " Alecto said while rolling her eyes.
"Stay here and don't stop until he screams, " Amycus said with a devilish grin spread across his pale face.
They left the room and I dropped my arm and ran over to Neville the second I heard the door shut.
