chapter five.

once the sun peeked through the window,
it forced you out of your deep sleep.
you stretched greatly and laid in the bed for another few minutes,
letting the rest of your body wake up.
you sat up,
realizing everyone else in the room was up and gone besides ginny.
"good morning ginny,"
you smiled over at the girl.
"good morning."
"sleep well?"
"i did. i had a weird dream about harry and that cho girl though,"
she explained.
you laughed and ran a hand through your bed head,
"cho? she's old news. like...way old."
"i know i just see how he looks at her sometimes."
you stood on your feet and stretched yet again,
"have you seen how he looks at you though?"
"no,"
she admitted.
"exactly,"
you winked and threw on your bathrobe,
tying it in the front.
"he's in love with you, ginny. believe me."
you left her with her thoughts and trailed down to the common room,
searching for fred and george.
it didn't take long considering they stuck out like a sore thumb,
with the flaming red hair that sat on top of their heads.

"good morning,"
you smiled and sat across from them.
"just the girl we were waiting to see!"
george smiled and clapped his hands.
"christmas holiday is just around the corner, y/n."
"and we are inviting you to the burrow!"
you smiled,
"i'd love to guys, really but-"
"don't tell me you're declining our offer,"
fred frowned.
"i would want nothing more than to come and spend holiday with you and your family but...i've got to go home."
you still hadn't really explained the story behind your mothers wellbeing,
how when you were gone she was being watched over by a nurse from st mungos.
and holidays gave the nurse a break because she had a family too.
it even gave you a chance to visit your brother who was in the psychiatric ward at st mungos.

"please don't be mad at me,"
you pleaded,
their faces coated in disappointment.
the tone of your voice seemed to snap fred out of it as he patted your shoulder,
"mad at you? never!"
"i'm really sorry."
"don't be,"
george shrugged.
"yeah we get it."
you smiled as best as you could and made your way back up the stairs to change and get ready for your day.

"george?"
"yeah, fred?"
"are you thinking what i'm thinking?"
"i think i am,"
they grinned at each other and began to think about their plan,
before you came back down and joined them again.
"what are you two planning?"
you asked,
your eyebrows raised in suspicion.
"hm? nothing. we've got to go. see you later?"
"yeah. i'll see you,"
you shrugged and watched them leave the portrait.
you pulled out your spare parchment,
realizing you finally had time to write back to your mother.

you folded the letter carefully and tucked it away into your bag,
making a mental note to take it to the owlery soon.
you read over the letter time and time again,
trying to make sure it was okay to send.
"maybe i should give her the details,"
you mumbled to yourself in reference to the way your skin would rise with chills when fred brushed past you,
or how your insides bubbled with excitement when he said your name in that gentle tone of his,
or how caring he was when it mattered most.
but it was all just the excitement of having a new friend.
right?
you shook your head and looked out the window,
the sun shining dimly.
these past few weeks had blended into some of the best weeks of your life.
it had just been september and you had just met the twins,
now it was almost december and you were full of joy.
befriending the weasley twins had been the best decision of your life.
even luna agreed.
you sometimes brought her along on your adventures with fred and george.
she enjoyed their company all the same.

the sky outside was beginning to show the weather change,
the last bright sunny day hogwarts saw was the day you and fred spent it outside together.
it was now getting colder and windy.
you decided these next few weeks were going to matter most,
considering you'd be without the twins for a couple weeks.

you sighed and made your way to the owlery,
finding iris.
"hey cutie,"
you smiled and caressed the owl your brother had gifted you for your eleventh birthday.
you tied the letter to her leg and watched her fly away.

"don't think because christmas is approaching that you have an excuse to slack off. today you'll be taking notes,"
snape instructed,
walking past you to see that your materials still weren't out.
"perhaps you didn't hear me l/n, i said take notes! unless you think you're too good at potions, which i can surely remind you that you're not."
"you're telling me. i'm still missing half an eyebrow from our la-"
you cut your sentence short as you took notice of your professors stern and rather agitated look.
"right,"
you mumbled and pulled out a quill and parchment to take notes.
you sloppily jotted down the notes,
feeling a pair of eyes burn into you.
you looked up to see dean staring,
before giving you a soft smile.
he then waved,
which you mirrored.
returning to your notes with a certain curiosity ringing.
"oi. who do you keep waving at?"
george whispered.
"dean."
"dean thomas? why?"
"because i'm being polite,"
you answered with a laugh,
feeling the back of your head being smacked by professor snape.
the twins suppressed their laughs.
"shut up,"
you whispered with a smug look on your face.

once class was over,
you walked the corridors with the weasley's.
"y/n!"
the voice called out from behind.
you and the twins turned around to see dean thomas running after you.
"i'll catch up with you guys,"
you smiled at the boys.
they nodded and walked further down the hall,
fred being a little hesitant.
"what's if he's trying to hurt her?"
fred asked.
"dean thomas? are you serious?"
george snickered,
turning the corner to wait for y/n.
"i think you're just jealous,"
george then suggested with a grin pulling at his lips.
"i'm not jealous. i just don't want her getting hurt. you saw what that tosspot dean thomas did to ginny!"
shortly after the words left his mouth,
you appeared around the corner.
"hello!"
"what'd dean want?"
fred asked eagerly.
"woah calm down there nosey,"
you laughed and walked ahead of them to the common room.

you entered and headed straight for your dorm before fred pulled you back by your wrist.
you looked into his eyes,
burning with what looked like jealousy.
"what?"
"what did dean want?"
you shook your hand free of his reach and shrugged.
"why?"
"just tell me."
"it was nothing. can you calm down?"
the words seemed to wash over him,
and he cleared his throat.
"i just didn't want him thinking he could hurt you like he did ginny."
"i appreciate it, fred, but i'm old enough to take care of myself."
you walked into your dorm and began to find your leisure clothes,
racking your mind with what just happened.
fred seemed genuinely jealous,
but it was just him being overprotective.
obviously.

"what the hell was that you big git?!"
george smacked the back of his twin brothers head.
"i was just looking out for her."
"you need to tell her right away, mate, or you're gonna explode."
"tell her what?"
"you know exactly what, thickhead."
fred scoffed and watched as you bounced down the steps,
the oversized sweatshirt swallowing you.
your shorts were barely visible due to the length of the sweatshirt,
leaving fred to swallow hard and force himself to peel his eyes off of your bare skin and into the fire that crackled ahead of him.
"hey,"
you spoke gently and took a seat next to him,
your natural scent wafting in the air and making his insides churn with lust.
"i'm sorry if i came off rude earlier. i know you're just looking out for me,"
you placed a reassuring hand on his forearm.
he looked down at your hand and up into your eyes,
noticing how close you two were right now.
if he just edged a little more,
you'd be connected.
he ran his tongue over his bottom lip.

you held his gaze and began to feel butterflies fill your stomach intensely.
you knew he was thinking the same thing you were.
"fred?"
you whispered softly,
just a few inches away from his lips.
he cleared his throat,
which seemed to snap the both of you out of your trance.
you backed away quickly and flushed with embarrassment,
hearing his voice.
"i'm sorry for grabbing you up like that."
you smiled and patted his knee,
"no need. water under the bridge."
