you were a few weeks into your break now,
and it had been spent watching the same movie with your mother,
and eating the same things everyday.
your mother had gotten so used to living this life,
watching her movie and eating on schedule,
that anything different sent her into a shock.
you weren't complaining though.
you enjoyed talking to her and you knew she didn't ask for this life.
but after your father dying and your brother going mad,
she needed the stability.

you stabbed your fork into the food and chewed slowly,
cindy sitting herself at the table with you and your mother.
"so when are you going home?"
you asked cindy.
"i'm not."
"huh? why not? you always go home! i can take care of her, you know?"
"relax, would you?"
the nurse smiled and patted your arm reassuringly.
"my kids are on a trip with their father."
"oh,"
you replied sheepishly.
"where to?"
"greece."
"oh! sounds lovely. i'm sure they'll have a great time."
"yeah, they were excited. you plan to visit those twins of yours?"
"oh no,"
you shrugged sadly and began to play with the food on your plate.
your mother looked up,
"you should go, sweetie."
"well who's gonna spend christmas with you?"
"miss barnes will,"
your mother smiled and looked at the nurse who was bright with happiness.
"yeah well....i'm not going so looks like you two are stuck with me."
everyone at the table laughed.
"would you like to see your brother tomorrow?"
"i would love to."
"great. we'll leave early tomorrow morning then."

you laid in the bed and closed your eyes,
your mind drifting to the one afternoon you and the twins spent by the black lake.
what started off as an innocent walk along the way turned into a swimming contest and then trying to drown one another.
you laughed to yourself as you heard the echo of their laughter in your mind.
oh how i miss it already.
your mind then trailed to fred again.
and your heart began to burn with desideratum for the boy.
i hope to see him soon.

you walked inside the hospital,
growing a bit anxious with each step to your brother.
then you arrived,
and you watched as his face lightened.
"y/n!"
"hey flynn."
his eyes looked sunken in,
his cheeks as well.
he had lost a lot of weight,
and the sight made your eyes water.
"remember when we used to play gobstones out in the field? you were like six, huh? now you're all grown up... starting your first year at hogwarts."
you forced a smile and sat on the bed he currently occupied,
nodding.
the trauma to his brain had caused him to lose a fair bit of memory.
"i know. how are you doing though? they treating you good in here?"
"oh they spoil me,"
he chuckled,
"they give me two puddings at dinner instead of one."
"oh! two, huh?"

you and flynn continued with your conversations but after about an hour it was time to go.
"you stay safe, okay? i love you flynn,"
you spoke with a quiver to your voice as you held him tight.
"i will. let me know how your first year goes."
"of course."
you waved and smiled once more and walked out,
feeling the tears fall as you walked with cindy to her car.
"you okay?"
"it's just hard seeing them like this. thought i'd be used to it by now but..."
you explained,
wiping the tears off with your sleeve.
"i know, darling. but they're doing so well, considering. and so are you! don't be so hard on yourself."
you nodded in understanding,
soon arriving to the house.
you stepped in and heard your mothers lively laugh,
shooting cindy a confused look.
you hadn't heard that laugh in years.
you hurried to find her,
and felt your heart drop.
"fred? george? what are you doing here?"
