Chapter 21

"You want to try it?" Noah had a forkful of his fancy duck dish held out for me, so I just shook my head.

"I'm vegetarian," I had to remind him, making his eyes widen.

"And you don't drink either?" He confirmed.

I shook my head again, playing with my overly priced tofu dish.

This was a very fancy restaurant, and I was already feeling rather underdressed in my simple black skater dress and matching converse shoes. Had I known he was bringing me to the neighbouring town for a fancy meal, I would have pulled out my Harley Quinn heels at least. To add to my list of insecurities, Noah was looking every bit a Hollywood star, even with his basic grey tee shirt and black jeans attire. I wondered if his love for grey tee shirts had any deeper meaning, and there was something about him I should have known, or should try and learn about.

We talked about other things though, and Noah's comic timing was impeccable. We had a great time throughout, if I wasn't acutely aware of how hungry I was getting. He told me the infamous tales of the soccer team's antics when they were visiting other colleges for games, and more often than not I was struggling to keep my laughter in check. I did get a few looks from the onlookers, but Noah didn't seem to care. When it was time for dessert, he had a quick look at the menu before dismissing it, "Everything had eggs in it."

Tough luck.

"I totally got you to the wrong place," Noah whistled when we finally came out of there, after an embarrassing argument about the cheque. I offered to pay my share of it but Noah refused. "You barely ate anything, it's on me."

Well, that was true. I would probably raid the kitchen later tonight.

"We can get something from the drive thru on the way," Noah offered, but I refused. That stupid tofu meal already cost a lot more than I had intended to spend on a dinner and paying Noah back would be a chore. We walked to the parking lot hand in hand, feeling my giddiness rush over me in waves. If all went well, and I couldn't see why it wouldn't, I could possibly talk to Noah about the girlfriend thing soon. And if things always were to stay like this, I would talk to Eleanor first thing tomorrow.

"Have I mentioned you look so fucking hot today?" Noah whispered in my ear as he opened the door to his car for me. Blushing, I turned halfway to meet his waiting lips, probably smothering him with the red stain of my lips. Noah maneuvered me around and lifted me up by the waist, seating me inside the car in one fluid motion, without breaking away from our kiss. There was something otherworldly about him, as he wedged himself between my legs, pushing his tongue in. That was definitely more satisfying than what I ate, and probably more so than whatever drive through he had been offering.

"Thought I'd never see you again, Sterling," a man's voice broke us apart, and Noah stiffened at the sound of it. Whoever it was, Noah didn't like him, apparently. He wiped the lipstick smudged on his face, stepping back from where my legs were almost locking him.

"Stay inside." It was a warning, if the intense look in his eye was anything to go by.

He shut the door behind him, turning to face the man who called him. He didn't look much older than Noah, but his full beard and flattened hair added to his age. A lot more muscular than Noah, the buff man's shirt struggled to encompass his biceps, and I shuddered.

Noah walked in ease though, a smile plastered on his face, reaching forward to give him a bro hug. Who was this man? Well, it wasn't any of my business knowing. He was talking to Noah about something that I couldn't hear, but the conversation seemed lighthearted if their actions and smiles were anything to go by. A vibration in my purse pulled me away from my observation, and I quickly dug out Noah's phone that had an incoming call lighting up his screen.
