Soobin was relaxed against a rock, remora fish cleaned and groomed his scales as he watched with little interest at the scene playing in front of him. Syrens; males and females, swam together in a synchronized choreography, their eyes seemed to glue to one another as they swirled together and exchanged gifts.
What were they called again?
Oh yeah. . . Promises; which were handmade bracelets, rings, or necklaces that were made out of pearls that came from those vicious oysters. The gifts are meant to symbolize a promise between the two creatures; to stay faithful to one another during the process of bonding and the promise to stay together until death do them part.
The promises were something special for the youngsters of the tribe too. If they had fallen in love before the right age or if an older syren had taken interest in someone younger. A promise would be made and gifted to the younger one of the two to symbolize that the older would wait until their future mate is ready.
Even though Minho had explained it to him in detail after Soobin had caught him making one, poor Soobin was still confused over the point of making a promise or the symbolic meaning that it held.
Maybe it was his lack of interest on the matter. . . Well, he was nineteen and now a major heartthrob for the ladies after his gray scales had finally become the vibrant blue that they had always been meant to be. When he had come to the tribes he had been called scrawny, sickly, and even ugly due to his unusual colorization.
But now, his scales were beautiful. Now they shone brightly against the sunlight and his shoulders and back were broad and his arms had become stronger due to the swimming and hunting to satisfy his endless hunger.
But of course, even though he had become a strong and valuable candidate for winning girls' hearts, Soobin was just not interested. . . Well, maybe he wasn't interested in his species.
He had a crush on someone that belonged to Air Tribe. . .
That someone being Kai. . .
When did he realize this? Last week when the younger one had smiled at him from the clouds. For how long had he had a crush on Kai?
Don't ask him, he doesn't know. . .
Heck, he doesn't remember what he ate last night. . . Shrimp maybe? OKAY, WE'RE GETTING OFF-TOPIC. OUR BABY BOY LIKES KAI.
He's been aware of how Kai's giggles and the fact that his pretty gaze could make his heart all mushy and soft. But did he really want Kai to be his mate?
Maybe. . . Maybe not. . . He didn't know exactly. But he did want Kai for himself, he didn't wanna share. He wanted to protect the younger and he wanted the younger to be by his side forever so he could kiss his cheeks and hug him for as long he wanted to.
Okay, maybe he did want Kai to be his mate.
Should he make him a promise?
Yes.
Of course, he should!
But. . . He didn't have the materials and didn't know the essentials to make Kai a promise.
WAIT A MINUTE! Soobin sat up alertly, making the remora fish swim away from him abruptly. He looked at the corny couples and an idea formed in his head. . .
He'd already seen someone that was familiar with making promises. . . Why not ask the king of flirts and his being-over-the-top-annoying gay best friend, Minho?
