Chapter 3: Hot Day
Things go pretty fast around here. One minute it was just the beginning of the school year, the next; it’s the 3rd week of the school year. It’s already the middle of September and its freaking hot.
I’m sweaty all the time and the school actually allowed us not to wear our blazers. I decided that I should just go wear the uniform in a much more comfortable manner. I unbuttoned a few more buttons in my shirt, just below my breasts, of course, I wore a tank top inside and it was coated with sweat. I rolled my sleeves a little bit higher than usual, wore my hair up in a bun and I decided not to wear my fishnet leggings and my tie as well. Oh, and lets not forgot my black shoes. I didn’t wear them as well. I just wore my flip flops.
It caused quite a stir the first 2 days but I got around with the principal and despite the dress code violation, he allowed me to go to school looking like I was ready to go to the beach.
I met up with Xander who decided to ditch the long sleeved linen shirt and wore a short sleeved one and inside is a white Simple Plan T-Shirt. He wore faded jeans and Chuck Taylors. I raised an eyebrow at him and he just shrugs.
“Simple Plan, eh?” I say eyeing the logo and he smiles.
“It’s because they’re legendary. Now deal with it.” He puts his arm around my shoulders once again. He walked me into my first period, which would be Calculus. If I hate Lit, I hate this more. “See you after class.” I sighed and entered the classroom.
“Okay, so I heard that there’s this new kid in town. He just dropped out of college and he’s really cute,” Jane said beside me. I was walking with Xander to my Lit class when all of a sudden; I got ambushed by Roxie and Jane. Xander was walking behind us, he was a few feet away.
“You do realize that I don’t care about anything you say, right?” I ask her and she just shrugged and continued her chatting away. Roxie was listening attentively to her with a weird grin on her face.
“I don’t care about him though. I’ve got my eyes set on someone,” Roxie says and I know she means Travis. “Speaking of, don’t you guys have lit together?”
I nod. “Yeah, we’re seatmates.” Roxie squeals and I roll my eyes. “You do realize that he’s been my seatmate for about a week now, right?” She shrugs.
“Does he talk about me?” she asks. If I was going to be honest, then yes, he does talk about her constantly. But I don’t think she should hang out with him, but there’s a part of me that thinks it’s a good idea and that she’ll be pre-occupied and she won’t bother me so much. I nod and she grins from ear to ear. “Knew it.”
“Then quit asking me. I have to get to class,” I snap.
“Look, we just think that this new kid might actually be your type,” Jane says and I roll my eyes. “He used to go to Ole Miss but he got kicked out because he was playing with fire. He loves it but he burned down an off campus house.”
“Okay, he’s not my type. Now can you please leave me alone,” I mutter and she nods and goes away. A few seconds later, Xander joins my side and we walk to my Lit class. He stops by the door and looks at Ms. Jophiel, he nods at her and she nods back. Pretty soon, she’s walking towards us.
Once she’s in front of us, I felt strange and weird standing here. I excused myself and walked towards my seat. Ms. Jophiel and Xander talked quietly and from the looks on their faces, it’s serious. They kept glancing back at me from time to time, then the bell rang. Xander smiled at her and waved bye at me before disappearing.
Ms. Jophiel turns and looks at me. She smiles and walks to the front of the room. Whatever they discussed, I was pretty sure it was about me.
The rest of the session wasn’t that bad actually. Ms. Jophiel made us read Romeo and Juliet. While, some of us DID read, the rest just texted away. Travis was one of the very many who were texting. I glanced at the screen of his iPhone, to check who he was texting and I was mortified when I saw the name. He was texting my sister. She never texts during class!
