After school Carl returns home bewildered with what happened. His house is in a poor neighborhood and the paint on the outside is peeling off. There is a muffled sound coming from the door. When he opens it the sound reveals itself as his parents arguing. There are several beer cans at the foot of the door Carl kicks over. His parents arguing gets even worse when his dad starts beating his mom. Neither of them notice he came home. In Carl's room is a collection of insects he's captured over the years. Be it beetles, butterflies he's pinned to a board and some roaches for good measure. Dead center is his magnum opus, Arachnus in a plastic spider tank. He's been keeping him alive and feeding him crickets and other small bugs.
"How is my one-of a kind pet?"
The spider turns around as if it heard him, but Carl chalks it up as a coincidence.
"How did Peter knock out Flash like that? I won't let him feel like he's on top for long. He needs to know his place."
The spider just crawls around looking for a way out but no luck.
"He doesn't deserve any of the good he's had. I'll take it all from him."
Peter returns home and barely talks to Uncle Ben or Aunt May. Ben is suspicious but doesn't mention anything yet. The next day goes on fairly normal but more people seem to be treating Peter nicely. Others back away in fear of him.
Peter: "Tough crowd today."
Harry: "You went all One Punch Man on Flash. You got some of them freaked."
Peter: "Does that include you?"
Harry: "I dunno I like what you did to him, but at the same time I don't want you to get a big head because of it either."
Peter: "Nah man it'll be just fine."
Flash shows up and stares Peter down.
Peter: "Can I help you?"
Flash: "I don't know how you beat me last time, but this isn't over."
Peter: "Whatever."
Flash leaves in a huff and class happens as usual. At lunch Peter, Harry, and Gwen are eating alone together when suddenly someone stops by.
?: "Hey is this seat taken?"
The man in question is a senior at their school and the star quarterback of their varsity team.
Peter: "You're John Jameson, son of J. Jonah Jameson!"
John: "Sure am!"
Harry: "To what do we owe the honor of the son of an esteemed journalist joining us?"
John: "To be perfectly honest it's because of yesterday. Flash isn't a bad guy, but he's been giving our athletic team a bad name. You rattled him good, and he hasn't been as annoying lately. Thanks for that."
Peter: "Uh, you're welcome."
Gwen: "So while you're here can you tell us about the allegations of the Bugle being a hostile work environment?"
Harry: "Gwen!"
John: "I don't blame you for believing in that. I admit my dad is a tough pill to swallow."
Gwen: "So it's not true?"
John: "He is intense for sure, so people think he's abusive, but he just takes his craft seriously. The Bugle is a news station now, so the pressure is that much harder."
Peter: "What I don't get is why he hates superheroes so much. The Avengers and Justice League help people."
John: "My dad gets that and he's grateful, but he's really old fashioned. He doesn't like heroes getting off scot free with the property damage and casualties."
