Summary - Rewrite of the final battle. My version of what happened when Ginny was forced to stay behind.

*please note when reading this, I haven't got round to reading the last 4 books yet! (I'm a mum of 3!) so some things may be wrong/changed!*

It was chaos. There was simply no other word for it. Hogwarts, the safest place in the magical community, had become a place of fear, destruction and death. It was hard to even imagine a world where students would have to fight for their lives in the thousand year old castle. But here they were, preparing themselves for a life or death battle. A battle that would change their lives forever.

Why was there a battle at the safest place in the magical community, you ask? Well, you see, seventeen years ago, a baby boy entered the world. But this was no ordinary baby. Lily and James Potter could not begin to comprehend just how important their son would become. So when a prophecy was foretold, claiming that their tiny bundle of joy would be the key to the undoing of the most dangerous dark wizard of all time, Lily and James couldn't believe it.

Upon the death of James and Lily, when their baby was just a year old, an evil being by the name of Voldemort turned his wand to the infant, intending to end his life before he was old enough to threaten Voldemort's existence. However, even Voldemort himself underestimated the power of love, therefor underestimated the power of this small boy.

The wizarding world rejoiced, the dark Lord had fallen. Or so they thought. Which brings us to the tale of the battle. Voldemort returned to power, you see. And this baby boy, who had turned into a powerful teenager, was determined to bring Voldemort to his end. Voldemort however, was not an easy wizard to destroy. Never the less, Harry Potter would not rest until the dark Lord was vanquished, forever.

Harry ran through the corridors. Students and staff alike hurried past him in a frenzied panic. Each one trying to find safety and security in the castle. Harry's heart was racing. The pressure to complete his task weighed heavily on his shoulders. The longer the battle continued, the more his friends were at risk. Despite having such an important task, Harry's mind was otherwise occupied.

Instead of focusing on the remaining horcruxes, or pieces of Voldemort's soul if you like, and how to destroy them, Harry's mind kept wondering to a certain red-headed witch with a fiery temper and a bravery so fierce. Ginny Weasley had made a permanent impression on Harry's heart. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get her out of his mind. Harry didn't know where Ginny was, or even if she was still alive.

No, he shook his head. She was still alive. She had to be. Harry knew, he'd know if she wasn't. He didn't know how he knew this. But something told him he'd know instantly if Ginny was dead. His heart would know if it lost a piece of itself.

As he rounded a corner, he came face to face with the witch in question. Ginny had her back to him, but he could tell by the look on Mrs Weasley's face and the way Ginny's arms moved that Ginny wasn't happy. Harry skidded to a halt, barely missing Ron as he did.

"Whats wrong, is everyone okay?" Harry panted.

"We're fine, but Ginny won't do as she's told!" Mrs Weasley scolded.

"For the thousandth time, you can't expect me to hide in a broom cupboard while my friends and family fight!" Ginny exclaimed.

"Ginny, we just want to keep you safe." Mr Weasley said calmly. But Ginny wasn't having any of it.

"There are students younger than me out there! They need me!" Ginny argued.

"No, we need you to be safe!" Mrs Weasley said desperately.
