It was a fine Tuesday morning when it happened. A man with jet black hair and emerald green eyes straightened his tie and tucked in his shirt. He made his way down the stairs and joined his wife and children for breakfast. He placed a kiss on top of his wife's head before sitting down beside his daughter and grabbing some toast. Life was great for Harry Potter. A loving family, amazing friends and a great job. What more could a guy ask for?
The morning owl delivered the post as normal, tapping it's beak on the kitchen window, patiently waiting for the post to be untied from its leg. Ginny Potter approached the window, opened it wide and allowed the bird inside. The owl stuck out its leg and hooted softly. Ginny placed two galleons in the leather pouch attached to the owl and untied their mail. She offered a small piece of toast that the owl clutched in his beak and took off again.
Ginny carried the mail back to the table, shuffling through the letters. On top was a copy of the Daily Prophet newspaper and she dropped it carefully in the centre of the table. Next was a letter from Charlie, Ginny's brother who lived in Romania. Following that came a leaflet for magical hair cream that changed the colour of your hair for up to eight hours. Finally Ginny came to the last envelope.
"This one's for you." Ginny said, holding out the letter for Harry.
Harry looked up from the newspaper that he'd picked up and took the letter. He expected it was something from work and dropped it on the table.
"Anything interesting today?" Ginny asked, pouring herself more coffee.
"Not really." Harry shook his head. "The Cannons are still bottom of the table."
"Ron will be thrilled." Ginny sniggered.
The Chudley Cannons were Ron Weasley's favourite quiditch team. He was a loyal supporter, even if they'd never made it past 47th place in the quiditch Cup.
Harry chuckled and folded up the paper. His eyes finally landed on the letter and Harry froze. The scruffy writing was familiar.
"Everything alright?" Ginny asked, noticing her husbands expression.
Harry nodded wordlessly and opened the letter. Ginny watched him carefully, observing his reactions. When he finished reading the letter, he placed the paper on the table and rubbed his temples.
"Merlin give me strength." Harry sighed.
"What's wrong?" Ginny asked, wiping some jam off Albus's cheek.
"We've been invited to a wedding." Harry said.
"Well that's good isn't it? Who's wedding?" Ginny asked.
"Dudley's." Harry sighed.
"I thought you and Dudley were getting along now?" Ginny raised a brow.
"We exchange letters every now and again. I haven't heard from him since he told me my uncle passed away." Harry shook his head.
Harry had recieved a letter from Dudley two years previously informing him that Vernon Dursley had passed away. Harry felt sorry for Dudley, but he couldn't bring himself to say he'd miss Vernon.
"Well at least he's invited you. It might be nice to go and catch up?" Ginny shrugged.
"The rest of the family will be there. Aunt Petunia, Aunt Marge. I don't particularly want to see them again." Harry said.
