Chapter 1: Hot news! (Literally)

It was the hottest news in town. Everybody wanted to know who were going to live at the old mansion on Great Middleton road. You might think that this is strange but when you live in such a small town like me, where every single whisper spreads like wildfire, you'll understand.

Suddenly someone burst through the door, interrupting my thoughts. "Hayley, they're here! They're here! You need to come and have a look! Now, hurry up!" she said and then Amber jumped up and down impatiently.

I sighed and looked at my little sister. "Amber, I don't think I..." I tried to say but it was no use. Amber had run over to me, took my arm and dragged me outside. I barely had time to put on a coat. We both stopped just outside the front door. "Amber, I don't think..." I tried again while buttoning up my coat but it was no use. Amber pouted and when my little sister pouted you couldn't refuse her. No one in this town could actually. So I sighed and said: "Okay, I'll come but..." "YEAH!" Amber exclaimed while clapping in her hands and then she ran in the direction of Great Middleton road.

I shook my head. There was no turning back now and I closed the front door behind me. Carefully, I stepped into the fresh snow. I could hear it crack under my feet. Winter was just starting to come. Oh, I loved the winter! The cool and fresh air. The sparkling snow. Crawling under my blanked with some hot Chocolate. I breathed in and looked up to the sky. It was slowly getting dark and thick clouds were gathering. "It is going to snow soon" :I thought.

Then suddenly I woke up from my distracted mind because Amber yelled: "Hey, slowpoke! Hurry up or we're going to miss them!" She was already on top of the hill waving at me. A grin appeared across my face. "Hey! No one calls me slowpoke!" I yelled at her and I began to run in her direction.

We didn't live very far from town. Actually, it was just that small hill that separated us from main street. This street ran right through the centre of the town and ended up in Great Middleton road.

The mansion was standing tall at the top of another hill looking over our little town. The mansion used to belong to the Middleton family who had founded this town. However, 5 years ago Miss. Magy Middleton died and since she had no children the mansion was left empty. Since then people in this town believed that she was still haunting the mansion. Guarding this little town. Some even said, that on some nights, when you looked good enough, you could see a light behind one of the windows. Though I thought that this was just ghost talk, made up by all the rumors in this village.

When me and my sister finally arrived at the mansion it was packed with people. I was not surprised, that's how it goes in this town. Everyone wanted to know who was going to live in the 'haunted house' and of course, everyone wanted to know who it was that could afford something like this.

I sighed. This was exactly why I didn't want to come in the first place. I didn't really like the rumors and such. Though, at least, I got a nice walk outside. "Stay close, okay?" I said to Amber. "Yeah, sure." She answered a little distracted. Then she spotted some friends of hers and ran to them. They were all screaming, yelling and clapping. All bubbly over the new people that were going to live here. I sighed and looked up for help. Was there no hope for this town? Does everybody have to be all bubbly over nothing? I guess that they couldn't help it either.

Suddenly someone scraped their throat and I turned around to see who it was but my face fell immediately. Tricia and her groupies. "So you did come?" she half said, half questioned as if she couldn't believe I was here. "Well I was walking around and I thought: Why not a little detour." I answered. She scowled at me. I looked at her so called friends and they turned their faces towards me. Waiting for a reaction but I didn't give any. After a while Tricia broke the silence: "Well, as long as you know that those hot guys are mine!" Then she turned away while flipping her hair followed by her groupies who did the same. I was left there standing alone, wondering: "Hot guys? What does she mean with that?".
