“Abi?” Eva wandered the home she knew well. She ran he hand along the wall, tears clinging to her lashes. “Abi, please. Do not hide from me…” Eva’s jaw was tight, growling pitifully.

She felt stupid. Stupid with one hand on the burning bite mark on the back of her neck. A bite made by the person she loved who was no longer here.

So stupid and alone in her family’s vacation home.

Alone. All alone after her rut.

Eva sobbed, walking the same path to the front door. Looking for Abi for the second time; as if she would appear.

She stopped at the front door, head snapping up at the sound of a car. She backed away, eyes hyper focused on the door handle. It unlocked with a key, slowly, sneakily. It didn’t make a sound.

Abi was good at opening locks quietly. Too good.

“Shit,” Abigail’s eyes trailed up from her feet, panting, “Eva.”

Eva gulped, tears dripping in cold drops onto her bare chest. She didn’t know if to feel even stupider, because she did.

“Eva Penelope, beautiful alpha,” Abigail slammed the door behind her, hands clenching and unclenching at her side. “I am so sorry I left you.”

Eva’s response came as a choke of the tongue. She bit her red lip, “you left me?”

Abigail’s lips pursed, dimples pressing into her face. Eva thought she was so beautiful angry. “I did not mean to, but I did, and I did not -you are awake, and I wish I would have come back when you were not. I am sorry. I went home and I spoke to my mother and he was so angry with me and he had every right to be. You have every right to be.”

“Why did you leave?” Eva shivered, the cool air now effecting her nude skin. “Did I do something?”

“No,” Abigail breathed. The alpha couldn’t stop her eyes from tracing the other alpha. Her mate. Eva blushed at the contact, shied away like an omega would. “I wanted to give you space because I bit you without asking.”

“I do not want space,” Eva frowned. “I need you here all the time, Abigail.”

Abi covered her mouth, wiping down, “yeah…”

Eva looked down, “I feel so sad.”

“I am so sorry.”

“You will not even touch me after yesterday?”

“No,” Abigail stepped forward, hands going to the alpha’s shoulders. “I want nothing more than to touch all of you. I want nothing more than to be here with you, but I was worried that you did not want me here. I am,” Abi laughed dryly, “realizing how stupid I am for leaving. My skin feels tight. How could I leave you?”

Eva leaned into her best friend, rubbing her nose against Abigail’s scent gland, “can we talk later, please? Just tell me whether you want to be here or not. I do not want to feel sad right now.”

“I want nothing else but to take you back to bed.” Abigail lifted Eva’s face, kissing her gently. “And have you bite me, have my face between your perfect thighs.” Eva groaned, lips latching onto Abigail’s throat. “Stick my fingers inside you and watch them glisten in the morning light.” Abigail growled deep, “lock all the doors and kill anyone who were to enter.”
