Monday. School. Fucking school. Michael and I didn't skip because Michael's attendance was completely down the drain and his tutor had apparently told him that if he missed one more day at school there would be phone calls home.

I strode into school trying to remain dignified as I listened to the whispering. Apparently the entire school knew about Michael and I and every horrible word, every attempt to trip me up was like a knife in my heart. The people who I'd previously never had any trouble with were calling me out on the whole being gay thing and it made me feel tiny.

"If you hear anyone say anything I will punch them," Michael made me jump as he whispered into my ear, proceeding to cover my ears with his hands.

"What are you doing?" I tugged at his hands.

"I'm protecting you. You don't deserve to hear this shit so I'm stopping you from hearing it," Michael said casually, before replacing his hands back over my ears.

"Dude," I whined, yanking his hands away, "I already heard the jist of it anyway."

"We're in it together baby," he whispered as someone shouted various other words for the term 'gay' at us, Michael desperately trying to distract me from it.

"Please don't freak out today, I hate it when that happens," I begged as we walked.

"I'll try," Michael sighed.

"Good because-" I was cut off by someone yanking my arm and my eyes went wide as I saw one of Calum's friends gripping my shirt and shoving me against a locker.

"Calum told us about your little secret," I think his name was Jack..? growled.

"I-" I tried to speak but his arm was pressed against my neck.

"You think-" Jack was yanked away from me almost as soon as he had started.

"Oh fuck off Jack Barakat," Michael spat, "we all know that you're just as gay as us you little bitch."

"Michael what the fuck are you on about?" Jack scoffed, standing square shouldered facing Michael.

"Oh, you don't remember 10th grade?" Michael chuckled and Jack's eyes went wide.

"Dude, I'm sorry, mate, it's cool," Jack patted my back and attempted to walk away but Michael grabbed Jack's collar and yanked him backwards. By now we had a crowd and the anxious panic had began to set in, my hands shaking a little as I felt the familiar dizzy, sick feeling inside me.

"You don't remember? Maybe I should remind you then," Michael growled, his expression set to anger.

"Michael don't-" I choked, but he ignored me. Don't punch him, don't punch him, you're better than this.

"Okay, dude I remember, chill out," Jack shouted, shoving Michael away from him, "why don't you and your little prick of a boyfriend fuck right off, huh?"

"This is for what you did," Michael spoke the words but my vision blurred.

"Michael stop!" I screamed, dropping to the floor in complete panic, the world blurring away and the only thing I could focus on being panic panic panic, "I don't like it I don't like it." I repeated as I tried to remember what my mum had told me. Breathe and the anxiety and panic will go away.

"Baby calm down, it's me, I didn't hurt him, I'm so sorry," Michael whispered, and I soon realised that he had his arm round me. Then I passed out.
