THE TWINS WALKED THROUGH THE DARK alleys of South Hampton, trying to get onto the boat. When one of the guards realized that they were both sick from their pale skin and red noses, he pushed them back and yelled at them.
"No sick passengers!" He shouted.
Enzo coughed and reached into his jacket pulling out two tickets, "We have tickets," Enzo said and coughed again while handing the man the tickets.
The man began to rip them, "We're not running a sick ward," the man spit and threw the pieces of the tickets on the ground.
"Please, sir," Delilah begged, "there's a doctor on the ship that can help my brother and I."
"Get lost," The man fussed, "before you infect us all with your consumption."
Suddenly, the man lifted his leg and kicked Enzo in the face making him fall backwards onto the ground. It angered Delilah, so she raised her hand and slapped the man. He hissed in pain and rubbed his cheek before looking at the dark haired girl with blue eyes.
"You little bitch," he hissed and as he was about to slap her, a woman appeared and snapped his neck like it was a twig.
Delilah watched his body go limp and fall onto the ground next to Enzo. The St. John girl looked at the woman with wide eyes. She wore a white dress and gloves. Her hair was a red-brown color and her eyes were crystal blue like Delilah's. The woman held her hand out to Enzo. Delilah stood between them and looked at the woman.
"Who are you?" Delilah asked and looked at the woman and then the dead man laying on the ground.
"Someone who sees that you two need a doctor," She said politely.
"We appreciate that, but even if we could get past quarantine..." Enzo looked at the dead man and began to cry, "we seem to have lost our tickets."
Delilah helped up her brother and embraced him with a hug. She had a feeling that they were going to die, but she was glad that neither of them would be alone. All they had was each other, they ran away from home wanting freedom.
"I can help with that," The woman said, "Hurry, we don't have much time."
Delilah looked at Enzo and let out a sign, "This is our only chance, Enzo," Delilah said and looked at the woman, "We'll go."
