They all turned to the source of the ominous voice. Standing there was a woman with blond hair and ice blue eyes. Sophie was not surprised when Keefe's eyes widened and he yelled: "MOM?!"

"Hello son," Keefe's mom said.

"You work for the Neverseen?!" Keefe yelled.

"No I don't work for the Neverseen," she told him. Keefe's face seemed to relax until his mother continued with, "The Neverseen works for me."

Keefe looked like he was in shock.

"Why?" He asked.

"Well. The world is messed up. Sophie's existence is proof of that. We, the Neverseen, want to fix that problem."

Linh put a hand on Sophie's shoulder.

"I thought dad would be the one in the evil organization. He sure acts like it," Keefe said.

"I'm not in an evil organization," Keefe's mom said. "You are, son. We want change the world for the better. The Black Swan want to stop us. So come with me Keefe. Be a part of the Neverseen. Change the world. You'll have all the riches and privileges. You'll be a leader." She held out a hand to her son. "Come with me Keefe."

Sophie lunged and took hold of Keefe's hand.

"She's lying, Keefe. Don't go," she pleaded.

"I won't Foster," Keefe promised.

Keefe's mom scoffed. "Taking orders from the girl , I see."

"Not really, Gisela. I was not going to go with you either way."

Gisela lunged forward to grab Keefe's hand. He stepped out of the way.
Keefe smirked.

"You need me for something," he said.

"It's not for me. It's for you. You need to complete your legacy."

Keefe barked a bitter laugh. "I don't have a 'legacy'. And I don't need one. So whatever you have planned, give it up."

Keefe nodded a very, very small, unnoticeable nod. But everyone seemed to see it. Everyone except Gisela.

At the exact same moment, all eight of them lunged at Gisela, tackling her to the ground.
Tam and Fitz held her legs down. The girls and Dex held down her arms and shoulders.

Keefe was about to punch his mother, but Tam stopped him.

"The Neverseen are smarter than this. Gisela is just a distraction."

Right on cue, arms grabbed Sophie from behind and a knife was pressed to her neck.

Sophie screamed when she saw the same thing was happening to Keefe.

All around them was a circle of black cloaked figures. Sophie saw the rest of her friends stand back to back in a circle, ready to fight.

Mr. Forkle leaned in and whispered something in Tams ear.

"Don't try to fight," Gisela warned. "We outnumber you and have better skills than you. Let us take the Moonlark and my son and the rest of you can leave unharmed."

"The Moonlark?" Sophie asked.

"It's our name for you Miss Foster," Mr. Forkle explained." When we found out about your powers, we realized you needed to be kept a secret. Not even your name was to be said, so we made you a code name: The Moonlark."

"You didn't do a very good job of keeping her a secret, now did you?" Gisela said. "We'll be going now. We will meet again."
