Chapter thirteen

"Eek!" Biana squealed when they finally returned to Everglen. "Sophie's first mission!"

"Calm down," Sophie told her as they walked into the kitchen. "It's not that big a deal. We either die or succeed. I'll celebrate if we do the second option."

Personally Sophie was very excited. Her first mission! She was also very nervous, mostly because they really could die doing whatever it is Forkle wants. Sophie really wanted to prove herself, she didn't know why though.

"Way to kill the mood," Keefe mumbled.

"Be excited Sophie!" Linh said. "This is gonna be awesome. And we will succeed."

"Yeah. Don't be such a downer," Fitz joked.

"I am excited," Sophie grabbed a glass of water, trying to swallow the nervousness away.

"That sounded very enthusiastic," Keefe said sarcastically.

"Shut up Keefe," Marella told him. "She's just nervous. Everyone is on their first mission."

"Except Tam," Biana added.

"I love how it's always 'everyone is this... except Tam,'" Tam said from the shadowy corner he was standing in.

"You're unique Tammy, in a good way," Linh assured her brother.

He just snorted.

"I'll leave this here," Alden said, coming back from wherever he went. Sophie didn't even realize he was gone. "We'll give you some privacy."

Alden placed a small black flip-phone on the counter and left the kitchen with his wife.

"What's gonna happen next guys?" Sophie asked.

Biana gave her a side hug. "I don't know. But we'll make it through."

Sophie gave her friend a grateful glance.

"Are you ready?" Fitz asked everyone.

Sophie let out a shaky breath and nodded her head with the rest of her friend group.

"Okay." Fitz reached out and opened the flip-phone.

Immediately Mr. Forkle's voice played from the black device.

"Hello dear children, his voice started. The next while is going to be challenging but I have no doubt in my mind that you'll make it through.

You are all incredibly talented in you're own ways and I look forward to seeing how much greater you will become during these next few weeks or even months.

The assignment I have for you is tough and you can back out of you want. We have other agents willing to take it up, but I picked you because you are most fit for this mission.

You will be posing as students at Foxfire High— Sophie's school.

You will look out for suspicious activity in the school and around the area. We have reason to believe the Neverseen headquarters are around there.

Neverseen members are already posing as students and teachers, mostly to keep an eye on Sophie. We don't know who they are, but like all Neverseen members, they are very dangerous.

You will not have to change your names or your appearances. Just act like normal high school students. Join teams. Go to dances. Don't look like your spying on people.

We will have to have spies there all the time, even after school. That will involve getting detention. I have a feeling Keefe will be in charge of that.
