I leant a hand on the sewer wall panting. "She's not going to make it Angel," Doyle said.
"Yes I will," I said stumbling forward, "even if it kills me." We walked deeper and deeper into the sewers. My axe weighed heavy in my shaking hands. We kept walking every step becoming harder.
"It's not too late to turn around," Angel said catching me up.
"I will see this through," I told him.
"Drink this," Angel said and handed me a flask, I sighed and did as I was told.
"What is this?" I asked trying to swallow it, even though my throat fought against me.
"My blood," he replied. Before I could say anymore my wounds healed and my strength returned. We suddenly heard chanting coming from deep within the belly of the sewers.
"We're close," Doyle said.
"Keep close," I said as I walked down the dark tunnel, we kept to the shadows. As we entered into the wide open space, there were more women all draped in white and standing in a pool of green sludge. The chanting continued as they were oblivious to our presence.
"Keep an eye on Cassie," Angel said looking back at Doyle. He grabbed my arm and pulled me behind him.
"Relax, he has no hold ov..." my mind was suddenly filled with the voice of the demon.
'Come to me, the one who got away,' he said, I tried fighting Doyle off but he held me firm.
"Don't let her go," Angel warned. "Sorry to crash the baby shower!" His voice echoed around the space.
"The woman you have with you is strong," he said as I kicked Doyle back and charged into the open space where the demon hid, however, with one kick from his foot he kicked me backwards. I hit the wall, grunted and together we waited for the grotesque thing to emerge. He walked through the gap, he was much bigger than we expected. We all exchanged glances.
"Let them go and we shan't harm you," Doyle yelled.
"Shut up!" I barked at Doyle, I threw my axe and hit the demon in the shoulder. He laughed at my pathetic attempt and removed the axe from his shoulder with ease.
"Cold!" Angel exclaimed, Doyle and I nodded to one another, I looked up at the pipes on the ceiling they should be enough to freeze the demon. Angel ran up the side of the wall and tried to break the pipes while we distracted the demon. However, the women began to scream in pain as his babies were about to be born.
"Angel!" I cried the demon had kicked me back against the wall again, but before he could any more damage Angel pulled the pipe loose and he was clouded in a fog of white. His skin cracked as he froze, and it wasn't long till his body crumbled into pieces. Doyle grabbed me and pulled me out of the way. The wailing of the women stopped, and their bloated bellies disappeared. One by one we helped the women out of the drab, leaking building.. None remembered why they were here or what happened. We returned to the office and collapsed into the chairs, it felt like a normal evening to us.
"Wanna hit the bar?" Doyle asked.
