"Now that he's dead, I can do anything I want to you," Jackson whispered in my ear before flinging me over his shoulder. I fought and screamed, kicking and flailing trying to get free.
"PUT HER DOWN!" I heard a voice growl sending relief flowing through my body.
"Artemis," Jackson said," why should I?"
"I told you to leave my property!" Artemis said," put her down and I will let you live!" Jackson growled, but did as Artemis said.
"Tell Ace this isn't over!" Jackson said before taking off. My knees gave out and I collapsed.
"Are you alright?" Artemis asked walking over to me.
"Why did you let him go?" I asked. I couldn't help but stare at Kyle's lifeless body.
"Like I told Ace," Artemis said helping me to my feet," we have a certain way of doing things around here."
"But he killed Kyle!" I said as we walked back to the cabin," and he...." I couldn't bring myself to say it.
"I know Clara," Artemis sighed," but you don't Jackson like I do. I practically raised the boy! He's like a son to me."
"Oh," was all I could say. I don't blame Artemis for not wanting to kill him then, no matter how much I hate Jackson.
"Clara!?" Ace asked as we walked in the back door," father? What happened!?"
"Kyle, he's dead," I told Ace as I ran over to him," if it wasn't for your father..."
"Jackson would have taken her," Artemis finished," why don't the two of you come stay at the main house! Clara will be much safer if she is there instead of here."
"Only because she's in danger," Ace mumbled. We packed our stuff and moved into the main house.
"My grandfather is dead," I told Ace as we unpacked our things in our bedroom of the main house.
"What!?" He looked at me shocked," how do you know?"
"Jackson said he ripped his throat out," I said.
"And you believe him?" Ace growled.
"As much as I hate the bastard, yes I do," I told Ace," I could tell by the look in his eyes that he was telling the truth. My grandfather really is dead... and Jackson was working for him."
"I fucking knew it!" Ace hissed slamming his suitcase shut," he's been nothing but trouble since my father brought him in!" Ace left the room and I frowned sitting on the bed. After sitting there for a while, I finished unpacking and spent the rest of the night alone. When I woke up the next morning, I was still alone. I frowned. I hated when Ace was out all night, especially when he was pissed off! I'm not the only one that does stupid shit when I'm pissed off. I sighed and got out of bed. I took my time in the shower. I was just about to get out when I heard Ace.
"How long have you been awake?" He asked. I frowned, he sounded like he was drunk. I shut the water off and opened the curtain.
"You're drunk!" I sighed wrapping the towel around me.
"So?" Ace challenged. I pushed him out of my way and walked back into the bedroom and over to the dresser.
"You do stupid shit when you're drunk!" I said as I began to get my clothes out.
"You do stupid shit on a daily basis!" Ace hissed," so don't be a hypocrite!" Before I knew it I was on the bed with Ace on top of me. I could smell the beer on his breath.
"Get off me!" I said trying to push him away.
"NO!" Ace growled pulling the towel off me and starting to kiss my neck.
"Ace! Stop!" I struggled as he started to take his clothes off. Flashes of Jackson and what he did ran through my head.
"ACE!!! GET OFF ME!! STOP!!" I screamed trying to push him away with tears in my eyes. Before I knew it, Ace was on the other side of the room. I wrapped the towel back around me and backed away from him as far as I could tears streaming down my face.
"Clara! I'm sorry!" Ace said taking a step towards me.
"How could you!?" I cried.
"I..." Ace just stared at me and I saw the regret and pain in his eyes, but I couldn't force myself to feel sorry for him. How could he do that to me after everything that Jackson put me through.
"Clara," Ace said sadly.
"Stay away from me!" I told him. He frowned but did as I asked and stayed away from me.
"I'll give you some time," Ace said before walking out of the room. I fell to my knees bawling. After spending I don't know how long crying, I got dressed and walked downstairs.
"Have you been crying?" Angelina asked worriedly when she saw me.
"I'm alright," I told her flinching when she hugged me.
"Artemis told me," Angelina said with anger in her eyes," I can't believe Jackson did that to you! I promise he will not touch you ever again honey!" I nodded. I knew that was a lie, he will get to me... I know it!
"Where's Ace?" I asked looking around.
"He went for a walk," Angelina said," he seemed upset."
"He's drunk," I said without thinking.
"Of course he is!" Angelina sighed," that's how he copes. I wish he would find another way to deal with his problems.
"You and me both," I mumbled.
"Are you hungry?" She asked smiling at me.
"Yes," I smiled back. She led me to the kitchen, and I smiled again. It smelt amazing. It smelt like blueberry muffins. I looked and there were blueberry muffins on the counter.
"Go ahead and have one," Angelina said putting an apron on," they're fresh out of the oven!"
"Wow!" I said after taking a bite," I can't remember the last time I had something homemade like this!"
"Your mother never made you blueberry muffins?" Angelina asked. It felt my heart rip in half.
No," I said quietly," umm.... She died giving birth to me."
"Oh dear!" Angelina said," I'm so sorry honey. I didn't know."
"It's okay," I said forcing a smile, then took another bite of the muffin," you are an amaz-" I stopped when I heard what sounded like music.
"Do you hear that?" I asked setting the muffin down and standing up.
"Ahh, Ace must be in the music room playing the piano," Angelina said.
"He can play the piano?" I asked surprised.
"Yeah, I taught him when he was just a little boy," She said. I walked out of the kitchen and followed the music until I came to an open door. In the middle of the room was a grand piano and Ace was sitting at it, his back to me. I just stood there mesmerized by the beautiful melody.
"Are you going to stand there gawking or are you going to come in?" Ace asked making me jump," I can smell you remember?"
"Damn vampires!" I mumbled walking in. Ace chuckled as I sat next to him.
"That's a beautiful melody!" I said in awe," but why does it sound so familiar?"
"Because you've heard it before," Ace said. I looked at him confused.
"When you were no older than maybe five somehow you had wondered into the compound," Ace said as he continued to play," you found your way to the music and I was playing it. You were the most beautiful five-year-old I had ever seen. I knew at that moment I had to have you. You were to young though, so I took you home and waited for you to grow up." Ace smiled me.
"And what a woman you turned into!" Ace smirked. I rolled my eyes, still a little nervous after this morning.
