Chapter 16

I was on the couch watching TV when I heard Ace's truck pull up. I shut the TV off and went back to my room. I heard Ace and Kyle walk in laughing.

"I'm telling you," I heard Kyle say," that girl was definitely checking you out."

"Wouldn't surprise me," I heard Ace say, a hint of amusement in his tone. I sighed. I didn't expect him to completely give up his new life style right away. I mean, we were still trying to figure out where we stand.

"Why didn't you go for it when she offered to give you her number?" Kyle asked," I mean, it's not like you and Clara are actually getting along and making things work at the moment."

"I know that," Ace sighed as I heard a loud "THUD!" followed by a sigh," I just don't know how or if things are going to work out between us."

"Well, I don't know how you guys are going to fix this," Kyle said," but I do know that if she had any chance of defeating her grandfather, it's when you two were on the same team." I frowned and sat on the bed not listening anymore. Kyle is right! If we want to have any sort of chance defeating my grandfather, we have to work as a team, not against each other. Later that night Ace made dinner and we ate in silence. Kyle went out to check the perimeter, leaving me and Ace alone.

"Clara," Ace said walking over to me," can we talk?"

"Yes," I said," there's actually something I want to talk to you about too."

"Really?" Ace asked seeming worried, and I nodded," ok." We sat on the couch and sat there in silence for a bit before either one of us spoke.

"I'm sorry," I said," I shouldn't have ran off like I did, or do," I sighed," I know I don't always handle things the best and I know that sometimes I act like a child.... I heard you and Kyle talking earlier.... Kyle is right, if we are going to stand any kind of chance against my grandfather then we have to work as a team."

"I agree," Ace said," and I'm sorry for calling you childish and all the other shit I have said that has made you feel like we aren't a team. I know I have to work on my anger and the way I handle things as well, but we will do it together."

"I love you Ace," I said.

"I love you too Clara," Ace smiled kissing my head," come on. Lets go to bed." I nodded just now realizing how tired I was and followed Ace to the bedroom.

I awoke the next morning to Ace smiling at me," good morning beautiful."

"Morning," I smiled snuggling closer to him.

God I missed this so much! I thought to myself He wrapped his arms around me, and we just laid there like that until his alarm went off.

"Well, so much for that," I pouted, causing Ace to laugh.

"We'll have plenty of time to snuggle later little pup!" Ace smirked," now get that cute ass up and get dressed." I groaned and rolled over pulling the covers over my head.

"Come on Clara," Ace chuckled. I ignored him and before I knew the covers were off and I was being lifted into the air.

"Damn it Ace!" I grumbled trying to get free as I heard the shower running," put me down!"

"Okay," Ace said putting me down, after we were in the shower. Luckily, when Ace and I slept we didn't wear clothes to bed.

"You're a pain in the ass!" I told him.

"I know," Ace grinned wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me to him. I couldn't help but smile. I laid my head on his chest and smiled. We stood there for a while just letting the water run on us before deciding we should wash up and get ready for the day. After the shower, we ate breakfast then we headed up to the main house to meet his parents.
