It was relatively cool outside. A swift breeze danced through the streets of New York, it too brought a chill to the atmosphere. Woods stood on the concrete steps of her high school. Her white prom dress hung off of her body like a bell-flower. Her silver hair's shine was enhanced by the moonlight. She looked out of place contrasted against the dark buildings and muck of her surroundings.
The girl sighed to herself and sat down on the stairs. Her date for prom had ended up ditching her. His excuse was that he had loads of homework to turn in the next day. It was a Friday night and Woods' school didn't hold weekend classes. Her mother had dropped her off at the high school early but had to rush off to the hospital for work. The only way back now was to walk home.
Woods' apartment wasn't that far away from the school, she had walked here every school day but tonight's situation was different. Woods looked vulnerable in her dress. She had nothing to defend herself with besides what she could find on the streets and her phone was close to dying. Of course she had forgotten her wallet at home so taking a taxi was out of the picture. Plus there was the fact that she was fairly tired. After learning about her failed date, Woods had gone inside to dance by herself. She had run out of the energy to fight if the need arose.
The troubled teen put her face in her hands and sighed, "What am I going to do?"
She stared at her feet, her grey eyes glossing over with tears.
"Hey there Woods!"
Woods jumped at the sudden voice and wiped her eyes. She turned around to face the voice. A young boy with unkempt black hair, dressed in a worn tux, came strolling out of the building, a redheaded girl following him.
"Oh, hey Jones." Woods waved meekly.
A few other students followed behind the other two. They all seemed tired from dancing.
"Is it over already?" the girl asked as her friends walked over to her.
"Yeah, it is midnight after all." Casey smiled.
"What are you doing out here by yourself?" The redhead known as April walked up beside Casey, her arm linking with his.
"Oh uh, I kinda got ditched." Woods looked away ashamed.
"Ah I'm so sorry." April crouched down to sit next to her friend, her own yellow dress folding delicately onto itself.
"That jerk! I knew he was no good! He deserves the good ole Casey Jones beat down!" Casey scoffed.
"No it's alright Jones. I had as much fun as I could tonight. The only thing I'm really worried about is how I get home." Woods tucked a loose strand of silvery hair behind her ear.
April looked up at Casey, a questioning look on her face. Casey shrugged and pointed behind him. April nodded and stood up putting her hands on her hips.
"Well, we live in the same direction right? You could walk home with Casey and I. He could take you the rest of the way if we have to split up."
"Really? You guys would do that?"
"Sure thing girly." Casey reached his hand out for Woods to take.
