(A/N) I can't express how sorry I am, again. But I'm back. And I'll probably stay that way, but you'll all have to hold me to it.

Summary- The beginning of the sports festival. Izuku came in first in his last life, but that ended up causing problems later in the game. Is ge gonna try and get 1st place, knowing he'll be targeted text challenge, or will he settle for mediocre, hiding in the comfort that comes with knowing that he won't be targeted?

As the last few students filed into the center of the large stadium, the roaring and clapping of the crowd grew, shaking the stands the citizens were sitting in. I stood there, looking around at all the students near me as I waited for the cheating of the people to calm down. It's hard to believe that I experienced this place decades ago. It seems like only a few weeks ago I was standing here, in the center of the sports festival, waiting nervously for what was to come next.

I saw Midnight out of the corner of my eye and focused my attention on her, remembering that she was the one who announced the start of the festival as well as the parameters for the challenges. The people in the stands quieted as soon as they saw her step onto the elevated platform in front of the students.

"Hello!" She started with cheeriness in her voice, "And welcome to UA's annual Sports Festival!" That brought on another round of yelling and clapping from the crowd. "Here to make our opening speech is the student who finished 1st in the entrance exam, Bakugou Katsuki!" More cheers.

I saw Bakugou walking toward the stage, posture relaxed and tense at the same time. He was faking his calm demeanor, but no one else seemed to notice. I pulled him aside just as he passed by me, earning a sharp glare from him. I ignored him in favor of leaning in close and whispering, "Don't say anything stupid."

He pulled away from me, scowling as he walked up toward the stage once again, obviously tense now. He stepped up to the mic with his hands in his pockets, radiating both annoyed and cocky energy. "I just wanna say," He started, and I could already tell that he did not heed my advice, "I'm gonna win." I resisted the urge to facepalm loudly as the angry yell of my classmates surrounded me.

Midnight stepped back up the mic, recapturing the students' and citizens' attention. She reveals the festival's first game: The Obstacle Race. She explains that all eleven classes must race four kilometers around the outside of the festival stadium throughout an obstacle course. Students are permitted to use their as much as they like as long as they don't leave the course. She then said that we are to follow her to the area where the course is set up.

I followed the students, not even needing to pay attention to where we were going; the students were pushing me in the right direction from all sides. We entered what looked like a garage that would fit a tank and filled in, jamming the tight space even tighter by all trying to get to the front of the group.

The only thing that keeps me calm at the moment is knowing that I've already done this, and I came in first, so I'll definitely be able to ace it this time. But last time that caused a lot of problems in the next round. So do I try to win, or do I just pass?

I didn't get a chance to decide before the doors opened, and my body made the choice for me. I powered up with 40% of my power, flying past the other contestants and zig-zaging through the robots' legs, snagging a piece of metal about as large as me from one of their ankles.

As soon as I made it past the robots I heard the sound of ice and cracking, and I knew Todoroki had frozen them. Although I couldn't hear what he was saying behind me- I was still running forward, dead focused on winning- I knew he was warning the other students, telling them he froze the bots in unstable positions. As I heard the loud sound of cracking behind me, it struck me how much of a badass Todoroki was. I was far in front of all the other competitors when the bots fell. I didn't hear it, but I felt it under my feet, rocking the ground and crushing students beneath mounds of metal and chunks of ice.

I was far ahead of the entrance and the bots when I heard the sound of Todoroki skating forward on his ice. I didn't have to turn around to know that he was gaining on me. Fast. The moment the giant whole in the ground came into view, I upped my power to 50%. I had to be careful; I had a lot better training than my last life, but I still could only use 70% of my power without hurting myself.

I didn't even pause when I got to the start of the chasm, running across the ropes that connected the pillared that were carved out of the ground. I flicked my ankle when I got to the end of each rope, wrapping my foot under the rope and pulling my leg forward, effectively snapping the rope and rendering that part of the course useless to anyone who had to use the ropes.

I kept running, passing the pillars and running across the plain dirt as I zoomed toward the last obstacle course: the minefield. When I got to it, though, I realized that I could just jump it, no matter how much of my power I used, and jumping in between them would take too much time. I kicked at the ground hard in frustration, and noticed that no dirt came up; it was so tightly packed.

It gave me an idea and I jumped to the center of the minefield, having to meticulously search every step to see if I could step there without exploding. In the time it took me to get to the center of the field, 2 indistinct figures entered my line of vision, and I knew they would pass me if I kept jumping between mines.

I put 20% of my power into my arms as I forcefully lodged the chunk of metal I snagged from a robot into the ground, careful of the placement of the mines. They were activated by pressure, so I was very careful to loosely pack the dirt around them as I piled them up.

When I felt that the pile of mines was big enough, I stepped back, placing the scrap of metal in front of me. I turned around for a moment, noting that the 2 figures had become just close enough to start attempting to cross the minefield. I jumped into the air, placing the metal under me as I fell. I stuck my foot out from the metal behind me, slamming it as hard as I could against the ground with 60% of my power. The whole minefield behind me exploded as cracks split throughout the ground, activating the mines behind me as I fell onto the pile of mines under me, rocketing me forward, leaving Todoroki and Bakugou in the clouds of dust behind me.

I passed the finish line 50 feet in the air, still soaring high on top of the green metal. I stood up while on top of the scrap, bent my knee, and kicked downward, sending the metal into the ground where it left a small crater, allowing me a safe landing without having to fall with something that was sure to injure me. I activated my power in my lower half, bracing my legs as I hit the ground, cracking the earth beneath me.

I stood up, catching my breath. The easy part's over, now the hard part begins.
