Emiri pov -

Do you think before you act? Because I don't.

The moment I heard screams coming from inside my apartment building I set my belongings down next to some dumpsters and flew in without thinking.

It's my fault they were trapped inside. If it weren't for me they would be fine, so this was the least I could do. Save them.

Hawks pov -

"Haru, you can head home early, I can handle the rest of this paperwork." Haru poked his head out of his office door, his eyebrows raised slightly, "Really?" I nodded my head and waved him off.

Truth be told I just wanted some peace and quiet to think and finish fast so I could get to Emiri sooner. The more I spent time with her, the more I grew attached to her.

And it scares me.

I don't know how to deal with these feelings. I don't know how to deal with sad people. I had to look up how to comfort someone online because I couldn't stand seeing Emiri like that.

It was pathetic.

I was pathetic.

I am pathetic.

But that wasn't going to stop me from being there for her, because no matter how hard I tried to fight the feeling, I always ended up falling harder.

I let out a heavy sigh and turned my phone on. No texts. She usually texts me when Eri leaves, and she would've left by now.

Somethings not right...

I decided to call her. Straight to voice mail.

I felt myself starting to panic. Why? Why was I panicking? She's probably fine, I'm just overreacting.

I shook my head and made my way to the bathroom to splash cold water on my face when I caught a glimpse of the TV and it's audio.

'What you're seeing right now is live footage of an apartment fire. We've been told there are still civilians trapped inside, as well as a pro hero who is trying to save them. Officials are just now arriving at the scene, along with other pro heroes-"

I didn't need to hear anymore. One look at the building and I instantly knew which one it was. On top of that, there was blue fire everywhere. I didn't even realize I had started flying towards her apartment building until I was already there.

There were those instincts again.

I landed next to a few police officers, "How many?" They were startled but were quick to answer me, "A mother and child, and a pro hero."

Dammit Emiri, you just had to save them huh?

Without thinking, I flew headfirst into the flames, a few of them slightly burning my feathers as I zoomed in and out of the apartments trying to find Emiri.

The fire was spreading quickly, there wasn't much time left. The faintest muffled cries could be heard, along with screams of pain and repeated thuds.
