❖ ❖ ❖

"For gods sake would you get out of bed Ash! We'll be late and we can't miss the train."

She groaned and rolled over, pulling the blankets further over her head. Suddenly she felt a weight on top of her and the wind knocked from her stomach.

"Jesus Christ alright! I'm up! I'm up!"

"That's what you said 20 minutes ago and you're still in bed."

"Hey! Don't get sassy with me. You may be the chosen one but i could still fuck you up."

She flung off the covers to see what she guessed was now her new brother in a way.

They'd both been living with Sirius Black and Remus Lupin since the end of last year after Sirius had his name cleared of all crimes. Of course, they were Harrys godfathers so they were always going to adopt him but their kindness towards her had been a shock. Granted, she had been the one to stop Peter Pettigrew escaping which consequently cleared Sirius and freed him. But more than that, she had grown close to Remus whilst he had worked at the school and he knew all about her home life, her death eater parents and the way she was treated by her older, actual brother. And so, at the end of the year he had offered her a room at Grimmauld Place. They couldn't technically and legally adopt her as her parents would never allow it, but she could live with them in the holidays. She couldn't tell anyone this in case her parents found out, but she was safe there with them. They could be a real family. However, she never accounted for the fact Harry Potter would also be there. And GOD was he a little brat sometimes.

"Ok seriously get off me." she glared at him; messy dark hair, staring out at her through those huge round glasses with those evil eyes.

"Get OFF!" she started to hit him, pushing him off her until he conceded, laughing and leaving the room, warning her that she had half an hour to get dressed and get downstairs.

She couldn't help but smile to herself when he'd left. She'd never admit it of course, but it was nice to have him around sometimes. He was stubborn and suprisingly cocky for an awkward little 14 year old boy but she supposed it made sense after who he is and what he's been through. And even though he was a brat she also liked having a brother who teased her and borrowed her things without putting them back and walked in her room without knocking and stole her food. They were all annoyances but they reminded her how things should be. Arguing about a missing chocolate frog and not the mass murder of muggleborns. She wished she could've had this with her own brother, and she supposed that at some time, when they were young, maybe she did. But those memories were too clouded now with what he'd become.

At least she had a second chance at that with Harry.

She counted down and forced herself out of bed, wincing at the freezing cold floorboards and cursing Sirius' parents for the lack of carpeting in this god awful house. She got dressed in her quidditch jumper and a skirt; packing her uniform to change into later. Brushed her teeth, washed her face and put on her shoes. She then made her way to the mirror and tried to decide what to do with her hair. She decided to keep it simple for now, concentrating on what she wanted and watching her hair change in front of her eyes. Long, brunette, a fringe to hide the breakout on her forehead which of course came just in time to start the new year. Although she had always had this ability, her parents had never allowed her to use it. For what reason she wasn't sure. Probably just to be dicks. So she would practice in secret and at school and, now she was free, she could use it anytime she wanted. She had gotten so much better over the summer since she'd been free to do what she pleased, and she grinned at the thought of how many more pranks they could pull off now.
