I enter the tower and make my way towards the elevator. Arriving at the right floor, I exited the elevator and walk towards the meeting room where everyone is. With my laptop in my left hand and my handbag on the right. My heels clunk on the floor as I walk. I turn to my left, then climb up the stairs.
"Perspective. The world owes the Avengers an un-payable debt. You have fought for us, protected us, risked your lives... but while many people see you as heroes, there are some... who would prefer the word,"vigilantes," an unfamiliar voice said, coming from upstairs. I continue my way up and stop in the middle of the stairs, listening to the conversation.
"And what word would you use, Mr. Secretary?" Nat's voice said. Secretary? The Secretary of the States? Why would he be here?
"How about,"dangerous"? What would you call a group of US-based, enhanced individuals who routinely ignore sovereign borders and inflict their will wherever they choose and who, frankly, seem unconcerned about what they leave behind?" the Secretary said. Now I made my presence known.
"I don't know, mister Secretary, maybe a group of awesome people? Perhaps?" I said, walking towards the table where everyone was gathered. The Secretary is standing in front while the others are sitting on the chairs around the table. I took the space left side of Steve.
"Ms. Stark, great to see you can join us," the Secretary said, frowning. I just smile then I saw Steve giving me the look. I shift my gaze towards dad who is sitting away from us. Looking at him now makes my smile fall. I saw how exhausted he is and how troubled he is now. Then I look at Secretary Ross. He takes this to continue. He activates a screen behind him. News footage from past Avengers and SHIELD matters flash on the screen. What happened in New York when my father, Loki, tried conquering Earth? I look down at my lap, knowing that Ross wants me to see this personally.
"New York." He said. I chose not to look at him since I know he was looking at me. I saw in the corner of my eye how Rhoden look at Natasha regretfully.
"Washington DC." Ross continues, then I look up at the screen to see the three Insight heli carriers firing on each other. He destroyed Triskelion. A halicore crashing into the Potomac and throwing up a massive wave, engulfing citizens and the camera. That's what happened way back in 2014 when Bucky was still in control by Hydra and when we found out that Shield was compromise.
"Save" then the screen shift, revealing terrified citizens, running. The city rising. A building falling over. I saw Wanda stare at the screen as Dad does. Steve was destroyed because of Ultron. A bot that Bruce Banner, one of my friend and Dad, made behind our back with the help of my father Loki's sceptre.
Last year Uncle Thor came back to earth to find the lost sceptre of my father he use during the battle in New York. We actually found it in Sokova. Then dad and Bruce want to study it before Uncle would bring it back to Asgard, but we didn't know that Dad use it to create Ultron. Then it all went wrong. That's why it became a murder bot.
Ultron was planning to destroy all the people in the world by dropping the whole Sokova (literally) and also by creating another him but better using Loki's sceptre. Wanda actually was one of his companions along with his brother Pietro, but when they found out the true plan of Ultron, they changed side.
Just like what I said, Ultron plan to create another him but better, we successfully stop him and created Vision instead. Dad and Bruce uploaded Jarvis' matrix to him that's why Vision sounds like Jarvis and because of that we have a new A. I called Friday.
"Lagos. " The man again pressed another button showing a burning building. Paramedics moving a body. A dead girl. That's what happened on their mission earlier, I presumed. I never heard what really happen but when I look at Wanda, she seems really troubled by it and I saw Steve also looking at her.
"Okay. That's enough." Steve and I both said at the same time intervening. Secretary Ross nods to an aid and the images disappear.
"For the past four years, you've operated with unlimited power and no supervision." Ross said. We are looking at him. When the Shield collapse, everyone thinks that Nick Fury died because of the Winter Soldier but what they didn't know Nick's still alive.
"That's an arrangement the governments of the world can no longer tolerate. But I think we have a solution." Ross continues then an aid hands him a thick book, which Ross slides across the table to Wanda. She picks it up and then slides it to Rhoden. I just look at the Secretary.
"The Sokova Accords. Approved by countries... it states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, they'll operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, only when and if that panel deems it necessary." Ross said walking behind where Vision, Wanda and Sam are sitting then walk behind Steve who is staring at the table not looking at Ross.
"Hold that thought, Mister Secretary. You mean before saving someone, we need the government's permission? And if the government thinks that it is not right to save them, then we'll just watch them suffer? That's it?" I asked, crossing my legs then leaning my back on the chair. The Secretary looks at me.
"The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place. I feel we've done that." Steve said. Ross again looks at Steve who is still not looking at him.
"Tell me, Captain, Ms. Stark, do you know where Thor and Banner are right now?" Ross asked, looking between Steve and I. Steve looks up and meets Ross's eyes. Yes, after the whole Turón event, Uncle Thor went back to Asgard to search for the rest of the infinity stones.
Infinity stones are colourful rocks that held much power. One of the Infinity stones called the mind stone is in Vision's forehead. They found it in my father's sceptre, the other called the space stone, which is the tesseract. It is in Asgard, probably in Odin's vault.
But we haven't heard from Uncle Thor and as for Banner. He's got stranded in a quinjet in Hulk form. We weren't able to track him since it was in stealth mode and Natasha wasn't able to be brought Banner back since I think the Hulk was upset at her.
"If I misplaced a couple of 30 megaton nukes... you can bet there'd be consequences. Compromise. Reassurance. That's how the world works. Believe me, this is the middle ground." Ross said, still looking at us. I look away then look at my Dad who is sitting in the corning her chin resting on the back of his palm. I sighed, looking at him.
