I walk out of the room before dad had a chance to talk about what I have just told him. I'm sure he is flipping out inside because of that right now. I saw Steve in a glass-walled, he was overlooking the control room. I walk forward standing beside him deciding to stay quiet. He was looking at the monitor connected to the camera where Bucky is.
"Hey, you wanna see something cool?" I heard my dad's voice from behind say. Steve turnn to face him.
"I pulled something from Dad's archives. Felt timely." dad cocontinues His coat hanging on his left arm and a black case holding on with his right hand. Steve ttakes a seat while I remain standing. Watching the monitor but listening intently to their conversation.
"FDR signed the Lend-Lease bill with these in 1941. Provided support to the Allies when they needed it most." I can see from the reflection of the glass wall that dad put the now open case on the table in front of Steve.
"Some would say it brought our country closer to war," Steve said looking at dad. It becomes quiet for a second
"See? If not for these, you wouldn't be here. I'm trying to . . . what do you call it? That's an olive branch. Is that what you call it?" Dad said now taking a sit in front of Steve resting his chin on his left hand.
"Is Pepper here? I didn't see her." Steve said. My eyes widen with a sudden realization that I promise Pepp that I am going to text her when I got back, though technically I haven't back home she's gonna kill me if I will not tell her where I am and took me time to come back. I rush outside of the office taking my phone out of my pocket to call Pepper.
3RD PERSON POV
Tony and Steve stop talking looking at Aya who hurriedly went out of the office. They both look worried then Tony looks at Steve.
"Whatever you're thinking now, stop it," Tony said sternly. Steve finally tore his gaze at the door where Aya had gone and looked at Tony.
"What?" he asked
"I don't like it when you are hanging out with Aya more often than you needed to," Tony said still serious. Steve just chuckles.
"You got it all wrong Tony," he said. Tony just click his tongue not convinced but didn't say anything more. He sighed after a few minutes of silence.
"We're kinda . . . well, not kinda . . . Pepper I mean," Tony said remembering what Steve asked earlier.
"Pregnant?" Steve asked.
"No. Definitely not. We're taking a break. It's nobody's fault." Tony answered. Steve felt upset about what he heard about what was currently going on between Tony and Pepper. He and Tony might have misunderstandings right now but he never wanted Tony's relationship to falter.
"I'm so sorry, Tony. I didn't know" Steve said looking at Tony
"A few years ago, I almost lost her, so I trashed all my suits. Then, we had to mop up HYDRA . . . and then Ultron. My fault. And then, and then, and then, I never stopped. Because the truth is I don't wanna stop. I don't wanna lose her and neither is Aya. For the past few years since Aya decided to join us and even before when she was still an agent" Tony said looking at Steve, his eyes a bit shiny.
The only thing on his mind now is the times Pepper got in danger specifically the Aldrich Killian incident, the time when his mind got manipulated by Wanda where he so everyone dead including his daughter. That got him so scared. Aya may not be his, but she is the only person he treated as his daughter. He never imagined being a parent himself thinking that he'll be like his father for sure. But when Aya arrived, she proved to him that he can be a good father.
"There are many times where she puts her life on the line. She may be the same as Thor but she could also get hurt. I thought maybe the Accords could split the difference." Tony continued, then he stands up and started pacing. His hands on his pockets.
"In Pepper's defense, I'm a handful. Yet, Dad was a pain in the ass, but he and Mom always made it work. As for Aya, well I am doing all that I can to be a good parent for her" he said turning his back on Steve and looking at the monitor outside.
"You know, I'm glad Howard got married. I only knew him when he was young and single." Steve said smiling lightly remembering the times when he and his friend Howard still worked together
"Oh, really? You two knew each other? He never mentioned that. Maybe only a thousand times. God, I hated you." Tony said picking up his coat and putting it on himself. Steve look at Tony, feeling guilty.
"I don't mean to make things difficult," Steve said
"I know because you're a very polite person." Tony walks behind Steve while Steve twirls the chair so he is still facing Tony.
"If I see a situation pointed south . . . I can't ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could." The two were looking at each other
"No, you don't," Tony said, Steve, let out a short laugh and look down at his hands
"No, I don't. Sometimes . . ."
"Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth. But I don't wanna see you gone besides Aya might kill me or worse stop talking to me when she found out that I just randomly punch you. We need you, Cap. So far, nothing's happened that can't be undone, if you sign. We can make the last 24 hours legit. Barnes gets transferred to an American psych-center . . . instead of a Wakandan prison." Tony explained folding his arms, Steve tore his gaze at Tony and look at the table picking up one of the fountain pens inside the case. He stood up and started pacing then he turns to Tony.
"I'm not saying it's impossible, but there would have to be safeguarded." Tony unfolded his arms
"Sure. Once we put out the PR fire, those documents can be amended. I'd file a motion to have you and Wanda reinstated . . ." Tony now taking a sit
"Wanda? What about Wanda?"
"She's fine. She's confined to the compound, currently. Vision's keeping her company." Tony said and Steve sighed in disbelief
"Oh God, Tony! Every time. Every time I think you see things the right way..."
"What? It's 100 acres with a lap pool. It's got a screening room. There are worse ways to protect people."
"Protection? Is that how you see this? This is protection? What do the others think of this? I assumed Aya doesn't know about this. It's internment, Tony." Steve said getting frustrated with all of the talking. He knows that right now he cannot convince Tony, even his daughter can't even convince him.
"What Aya doesn't know won't hurt her plus she'll understand if she knows. Wanda's not a US citizen after all" Tony said his voice getting angrier word after word
"Oh, come on, Tony"
"And they don't grant visas to weapons of mass destruction."
"She's a kid!"
"GIVE ME A BREAK!" Tony said now screaming had enough of Steve "I'm doing what has to be done . . . to stave off something worse." He continues now a bit calmer. Steve didn't say anything just looks at Tony nodding faintly.
"You keep telling yourself that." He puts the pen down "Hate to break up the set." He leaves the office leaving a rueful Tony who decided to just put on his glass and watches Bucky on one of the control room's screens.
